Guest guest
-Does Sharon wear the mask other times? I normally don't use a mask. I guess when I finally go out I am so happy to get out that I want to be as normal as I can. The masks bother me some. I do know that places like Lowes, Home Depot, etc. the pesticides in the gardening area is extra bad or the area where wood is located, and even shoes. To tell you the truth I haven't been in a store for about 7 months because of a lack of car. My husband has been using the bus, but I won't go on the bus. I did go to my daughters the other night and played poker and did really good. Sometimes when I return home it takes me some to adjust to my own place, not musty or anything, just something bugs me. Luckily it didn't happen the other night. Does anyone else have that problem adjusting to home after being out for a while? Hope Sharon is feeling better since her outing. -- In , " tigerpaw2c " <tigerpaw2c@...> wrote: > > The last couple of weeks I've had Sharon out to the store with me, > just to get her out and do something different. ... Guest guest
She is one lucky woman to have a man like you! Wish there were more understanding people like you. Hugs, Cheryl So physicians and other medical health consultants, etc. listen up, this is the way it is, whether you want to believe it or not. I've been with my wife now for 31 years and the last 11 years I have seen some drastic changes and effects not just to her phyically, but mentally as well since her exposure. Guest guest
KC, I get the same reactions! It's like I completely change. My mood gets very poor, I get nasty (like I could spit nails) and I get a very empty feeling sometimes almost totally void of any emotion at all. I also get terrible headaches but not always. All of this takes about 24 to 48 hrs. to pass. You are right ,No medication at all helps except TIME!! Sue The last couple of weeks I've had Sharon out to the store with me, just to get her out and do something different. ... I know, those of you that suffer from the same illness this is how we live in seclusion most of the time and these simple trips are our big adventure, adventure could be taken several different ways. The first time was to Wal-Mart, the second time was to Lowes. I also had another adult with me that observed the same thing I had. Yes, each time she was wearing a mask. So physicians and other medical health consultants, etc. listen up, this is the way it is, whether you want to believe it or not. I've been with my wife now for 31 years and the last 11 years I have seen some drastic changes and effects not just to her phyically, but mentally as well since her exposure. Now back to the trips, within 5 minutes of walking into Wal-Mart and I know there is alot of off gasing from everything. A change in her disposition was drastic. Most " chemical hits " of any kind normally first response (for her) is a soft dry cough, which is my warning to get her out. Then the loss of voice, respitatory which will be effected for several months after. This time it was none of that. It was all neurological. Before we entered she was in a good frame of mind, acting normal, well as normal as you can be with this illness. Her disposition, attitude, temperment, even the way she carried herself changed dramatically and not for the best. Anger set in, which you can see in her face, just very nasty when she spoke with a venomous tongue. My first thought " what the heck did I just do? " But she did not realize she was doing this herself, in her mind she was still acting " normal " . We finally figured this one out what really happened the following day. I guess for a normal person, if I can call myself that, before we go into any building the radar goes up for any type of odors, chemicals or mold. I did not smell anything. Normally when she reacts it's a strong chemical smell or perfume that I can smell also. This mask I know does not filter out chemicals, but the majority of the time she is ok. Of course this day was wicked and like most of us you can just shake your head at times, what is worse, not knowing what to do. The second time was even worse. But this time we knew the cause immediately. It was like somebody throwing a light switch, night and day. The harder she tried to suppress it the worse it got, so she finally locked herself in a spare bedroom until it passed. She knew she was going to explode verbally she didn't want to hurt anyones feelings. There was a second observer through this whole process of both of these episodes. They both took 24-48 hours to pass. Most that are not aware of why human being react to certain chemicals for whatever reason I'm glad I did not take her attack personally like most would. These were uncontrollable. She knew what she was doing, she just couldn't stop it. So physicians LISTEN to your patients and learn to ask the right questions. Hopefully when you address your patients it is out of concern and not to victimize them with criticism, sarcasm or patronize, because you doubt or don't understand what is right in front of you. I hope this will help others who've had the same experience or to inform those when or if it happens to them. Take care, KC **************Get trade secrets for amazing burgers. Guest guest
May not be chemicals or mold - it may be the florescent lights - our son used to say they made him " feel horrible & yucky " all over. Guest guest
exactly, and even some very good masks dont keep the chemicals/toxins out and can be very hard to breath through with the damaged airways. and yes, there has been many times that my daughter couldn't smell anything that was causeing me to react, theres times I don't smeell anything but my symtoms let ne know. once,my mom even commented on a very bad off gasing from new carpet in a closed up building was vithering her sences, it did a whole lot more than that to me and for a week afterwards my nerves were burning, stinging and so painful I thought I was going to jump out of my skin, all the nerves in my face and nose included, this was in a ENT's clinic. beleave me there's nothing like haveing q-tips stuck up your sinuses with this effect to your nerves going on, I about peed my pants. now I lose my faith in a doctor real quick when something is this obvious and it's tottally ignored. --- In , " tigerpaw2c " <tigerpaw2c@...> wrote: > > The last couple of weeks I've had Sharon out to the store with me, > just to get her out and do something different. ... Guest guest
Amen . Sorry too to hear about Sharon's continuing struggles. Too many of us can relate. > So physicians LISTEN to your patients and learn to ask the right > questions. Guest guest
Fluorescent light bother me and I have already started to stock pile the old type light bulbs. I will not put the new CFL in my home! They are very dangerous so start buying the old one now before we can't find them. I don't like to have a lot of extra stuff around but I will find a shelf for the regular and safe bulbs for the future. For me, it was definitely the fluorescent lights. I became sensitive to them at the same time I became sick. I started getting nauseous and dizzy in my kitchen and then , when I left to lie down, I felt fine. It took me months to figure out that it was the lights. The fluorescent in stores did something else to me too: I started to yawn uncontrollably. I know this sounds not so bad but if you are yawning nonstop you can't concentrate on anything. The yawns were huge and stopped as soon as I left the store. It was so weird. The CFL bulbs that are becoming omnipresent terrify me. If regular bulbs become illegal, what will I do? I can't have fluorescent lighting in my own home! **************Get trade secrets for amazing burgers. Watch " Cooking with Tyler Florence " on AOL Food. Guest guest
KC, I just gotta say for the record that you are an angel, and your wife and you are very lucky to have eachother. Have you always been this supportive and understanding of her? Thank you for putting the message out to doctors. Mood changes, and that's putting it very lightly, is my first reaction when I get " hit " by chemicals, or mold. It feels sometimes like a black hood descends over my head and suddenly everything is dark-sometimes I get depressed and sometimes I get rageful. I feel mean and hate everyone and feel paranoid. When I look at the way people are behaving in the world-the road rage, elevation of violence, people just losing it left and right, I think...well, we have finally reached critical mass so that all the chemicals we so blithely released into the environment have started rearing their ugly heads...people don't realize it.. Guest guest
Weidb, thanks for the idea. But I know it's not the florescents and hopefully it will stay that way. Guest guest
Sue, Ditto. It's funny you also mentioned " I get a very empty feeling sometimes almost totally void of any emotion at all. " Exactly. It's interesting how sometimes we can leave a thought out or a symptom and you can always count on someone, anyone to help fill in the blanks. Thanks, KC > > > KC, I get the same reactions! Guest guest
Now that sounds like a loaded question, lol. In my mind yes, especially since her exposure, but I'm sure she might beg to differ at times. I know there were some strange symptoms that I did have doubts about. I've almost made the mistake of saying so but my better judgement told me to bite my tongue. Thank goodness I did, because I can think of two different times when I doubted her, once was concerning the severe headpain and what she was feeling or what it felt like. Even though it was completely off the wall, unheard of (her description that is) I think I spoke to two others that were experiencing the same type of headpain and I had asked for more details of what they were feeling. The description was almost word for word, that kindof hit me in the gut. These people never knew each other and never spoke to Sharon. Thanks, KC > > KC, I just gotta say for the record that you are an > angel, and your wife and you are very lucky to have > eachother.
