Lactulose did not work for my DD because, as it turns out, milk sugars (lactose) was her issue. Now on Lactose-Free milk and doing VERY well (to think the solution was as simple as that, and that I brought it up to her pediatrician specifically, only to be told no and to keep her on Miralax!!!!)Her daily regiment now includes probiotics (Culturelle and Probiolicious Gummies by Rainbow Light), Gerber Organic Prune Puree in Organic Cereals with Probiotics from Happy Belly. She gets a side of one of her favorite veggies with either lunch or dinner or both, plenty of water and a fruit daily (we stay away from fruit juices) and vitamin C gummies every single day. yes, it's made from a milk sugar, can cause gas and I'm not 100% sure but if one has a yeast issue, I believe it feeds the yeast but at least a milk sugar and not a volitile chemical. Olive oil is a good alternative to soften the stool also. It also turns the stool orange, or at least the liquid around it becomes orange. Overall, it was okay, we stopped using b/c of the tummy discomfort from the gas. To: miralax Sent: Tue,

Here I am responding to my own post. I have been reading about something called lactulose. It appears to be a safe alternative to Miralax. Does anyone have any experience with this product?

It's a prescription item in the US but not for those who live in Canada.
