New here

Hello everyone:

I am new to the group but not to WW. I have been on since March and lost

up to 27lbs. And then just stopped doing anything. So I have gained some

back. But I decided today it is time to get my butt in gear where it was

before. So I spend the day cooking. I made some great blueberry corn

muffins- 3points a muffin. And a black bean pasta salad-4 points a cup.

I am a single mom of one boy who is 10. And keeps me on my toes. He is

very busy in Cub Scouts, church and sports.

I live in WI and am not looking forward to winter. But I know it is

coming so I must make the best of it. I am just looking forward to how

thin I will be come summer.

I like to cook and read and rollerblade. And once it is to cold for me

outside I will be joining the gym. There is a location near my home and

one in the building I work in. So I can always get there.

Looking forward to meeting you all.

Welcome to the group, Buffy! Congratulations on your loss. I'm glad you've

decided to recommit, and glad you're here! I'm dreading winter as well. I'm in

Minnesota. We had 9 feet of snow in our back yard....it was above our eves last

year. UGH. I don't do the gyms yet...too self conscious, but love my tapes. I

have yet to try rollerblading...it looks like fun, but I'll have to get some

more weight off first so I don't hurt my knees!

, welcome again. If you have any specific questions, just ask. Helpful

tips: hmmm....trying to think back to when I started: measure everything, get

a kitchen scale if you can find one and weigh everything. Have snacks prepared

in advance so you don't go crazy looking for food! Mark points on your food

when you get home from the store. My favorite 2-point snack are chocolate chip

granola bars. Small, but yummy.

Welcome, Tammy! I think that 123 program is excellent. Lots of people have

lost tons...and it's really not all that different than WP. Good luck!

Hi

I am Tammy. I am a sahm to 7 children ages from 14 down to almost 3

week old. :)

I have about 38 to 43 lbs. that I would like to lose. I have been

riding an exercise bike and using a health rider. I also plan on

roller skating soon. I am *very* serious about losing this weight.

I am using the WW 123 program that is a couple years old, but it

will

work for me. :) I will be adjusting it some since I am nursing.

Looking forward to meeting you all:)

Have a great day!!

WoW Tammy!

*7* children! *whew*. 2 boys are plenty for me, although if I was ever

fortunate to be a sahm I wouldn't have minded more. Too old now though! I do

have 7 pet rats that I consider my " babies " though, does that count? ;)

Welcome, and be sure to check out the WW site and http://www.healthdiscovery.net

for lots of information.

~Kim in Utah Two children, 12 and 9, two parakeets, and 7 rats. Oh yeah, and

one hubby (could count as a child eh?)

Subject: New here

I'm new to the group here, and wanted to introduce myself. I am a

SERIOUS weight watcher, although currently only an online member as I

have trouble getting to the meetings due to my work schedule. I also

seem to find more motivation from the WW internet site than I ever

did at meetings. I probably just never found the right leader.

I have done WW a few times, but never followed through with getting

to goal and maintenance. I have kept most of the weight off, but

found this year that due to increased work stress and injury (back)

the pounds were creeping back. I know WW works and this time I am

determined to follow it through to the end, and do maintenance also.

Since mid November I have lost 12 pounds and I have about 5 pounds to

go to my WW goal, and 10 to my personal goal. (17 years ago I had

gotten up to 200#, so I can empathize with those who have more to

lose than I do.) This is the point where I have always gotten lazy

and abandoned the program. I'm also struggling with a lower point

range (18 - 23). So now is the time I need to seek all the support

and motivation I can frow other WW members.

Looking forward to meeting you all.

I agree with Randee... If your child's pain is  not being controlled then the

doctor is not really doing their job!!

There are many doctors out there, there are people on this list from everywhere

maybe they can help point you in a direction to get help!!

The fact that Maddy has chiari and all the symptoms you are describing should

warrant a spine MRI to rule out tethered cord asap - I don't see any reason you

have to wait for the urodynamic testing to push for this -- I have had tc all my

life with no bladder issues but lots of others (mainly pain, muscle atrophy,

nerve damage). If a tethered cord is not clear on an MRI then urodynamic

testing and other symptoms, etc become more important in order to diagnose

tethered cord (eg occult tethered cord). The urodynamic testing is important,

but meanwhile I wouldn't wait to push for an appt with a NS and get an MRI as

well. Please know that a lot of MDs are not familiar with these conditions -

where are you located?

Good luck!

She had a mri of her spine about 4 months ago and it was normal according to

will keep push for a sooner appt. I was hoping they would have done it when she

was inpatient yesterday as it is usually faster. We are in Fresno,CA

Also, have another radiologist look at the MRI.

Like I said my daughter's ns is awesome and I think he specializes in

amazing. He even gives you his cell phone to use at anytime and NEVER makes you

feel like you have a dumb question.

Hello again,

I was talking with my partner this morning and I told him that I suspected he is

on the spectrum. He told me that he can't be because it is a developmental

disease and he is past that stage. He said that people can only be diagnosed as

children so therefore he doesn't have it. This makes no sense to me. Help?

Was he open to talking about it?

I wonder if what your heard is what he said. Did you mirror your version back to him?--

First, AS isn't a disease, it's a brain condition. Jus as you wouldn't say a

congenitally deaf person is diseased, being on the autism spectrum isn't a

disease.

Just because someone wasn't diagnosed in childhood, doesn't mean they don't have

AS. Many of us were adults long before AS was labelled … can we assume that

nobody born before 1970 was Aspie? Of course not.

Saying that, I'd suggest you don't push AS on your partner. He's already

rejected the label, and there can be many reasons for this, from false knowledge

of what AS is to some early history that causes him to reject the label, to the

fact that he really isn't Aspie. You made the suggestion, he wasn't ready to

hear it seriously … move on.

But this doesn't mean that *you* can't think of him as Aspie, study up on AS,

and assume he has it.

I did and I told him that I did not understand what he was saying. He told me

that I need to do more research since it is a developmental disease and he is no

longer developing. So therefore he does not have it. He then got mad and said

that he does not have autism.

Obviously he has looked into it, which is a positive. But I often find that he

researches something and draws conclusions that are very different from what I

determine. Then when I try to talk to him, he gets out his computer and gets

sucked into minute details which, in my opinion, have nothing to do what we're

talking about.

I can try talking about it again when he gets home from work but I may leave it

for a few days. I will try the mirroring and active listening.

Thanks Liz. This is very helpful. I won't worry about the title but instead

how to live with it.

I am studying up and developing a few strategies. It's hard because he seems

unaware of what needs to be done unless I ask him. So I am trying to get tasks

into his routine but it is hard. For example, he walked the dog before going to

work for a few days, but then I thought he would just do it on the next day

without me asking but no luck.

This is a very Aspie response in my opinion. The going to his computer and

focusing on minute details. If he does have Asperger's then he WILL

see/understand things very differently than you. Maybe have him go over some of

the research he has done and ask him to explain why he has drawn the conclusions

he has drawn. Most Aspies are very logical, even if the logic does not make

sense to us. Once I can have my husband explain his thought processes to me, I

can usually have a better understanding of the WHY behind his actions which

usually helps.

If he is like my husband...If you push him, he will withdraw. Usually I schedule

a talk with my husband when it is something he really does not want to hear. It

gives him time to prepare so he doesn't feel cornered. You can do your research

and then present him with what you find. My husband was the same way because he

felt that Asperger's was a diagnosis that would be treated like a form of mental

retardation. I was able to bring him to lectures, read books and show him

examples of why I thought he was an Aspie. We did have decide to agree to

disagree for awhile when he first rejected the idea. I just believed that he had

it and learned how I could change MY behavior to make things better.

I was thinking that too when I read her post. Depending on how

threatened he feels about being associated with the AS label, he may

also hyperfocus on the details that support his position, making a

logical case *against* an AS diagnosis. But then, that's a common

reaction of those in denial (about anything), whether they be Aspie or NS.

In my experience, this approach seems to work best. Until a person is

ready to examine certain aspects of their behavior, they are only likely

to become defensive (and perhaps even angry) if others continue to push

the subject.

Best,

There are many roads to the mountain, and we all seem to choose

our own path and get there at our own time. His time table might

not be yours

Well said, . I know that this was a problem in my own

marriage, as my husband and I were not on the same time table with

respect to my ability to become "less Aspie like".

Of course, back in those days neither one of us was aware of AS.

From his NT perspective, he regarded me as self-centered, willful,

disrespectful, and a spouse who did not really value the marriage.

Any behavioral 'improvements' that I was able to make were simply

too little, too late for him.

Best,

~CJ
