Guest guest
sorry Dahyana, I had to vent..............It's very frustrating when you have a child that young with constipation. Ours hit at 4months and it was horrible. My sister thought she was going to cure everything with Kayro syrup, which would help soften the stool and was good thinking, IF the reason for the constipation was simple or a lack of fluids, as it is a sugar and would soften the stool. After a decade of being on this group, the group has taught me to look at food allergies, vaccines, and a lack of gut flora as possibilities. Not one size fits all to all these cases of constipation, and no one knows why there's been such an increase. I would do a process of elimination to find out what your child is having a hard time digesting. Wellness docs typically practice food allergy testing, opposed to giving a pill................HTH, with a child that young, you need someone to help you through, that can identify WHAT is causing it. This could be something as simple as he doesn't sit up long enough after eating? or, he can't tolerate the formula due to corn (example) ☺To: miralax Sent: Tue, July 17, 2012 3:48:36 PMSubject: Help...need some advise Hello, I have a3 month old that is suffering from constipation. He goes 1x a day n he grunts and pushes throughout the night. The pediatric MD suggested I give him 1/4 tsp of Miralx 2x per day. I was giving him that n he still only goes once a day if we are lucky twice. I have noticed when I give him the Miralax he does not sleep well, very cranky, and his arms are very jittery. I stopped giving him the Miralax but I need some advice on what natural remedies I can give him to help him go. I've tried herbal teas and apple juice. Guest guest
Thanks Jeanie. I had to have my gallbladder taken out and it's when we switched to formula, which tells me that it's something in the formula. upon this happening, they child will become reluctant to have a bm b/c of the pain and it snowballs from there...............If you nip it in the bud before it becomes too big, you have a chance to get through it. I'd try something that they can digest easier. We used infamil, but that was a decade ago........I'd try some health food stores and see what they suggest, or wellness clinics. I wonder if kirkman sells formula? I'll check........To: miralax ; miralax Sent: Tue, July 17, 2012 8:08:26 PMSubject: Re: Help...need some advise If tried several formulas he is currently on Gentlease. He was doing great when I was breast feeding him. But I developed an infection and had to stop breast feeding him and that's when the constipation begun. I think it might be the milk but I've read that soy formula is not good as it can cause several side effects. Ahhhh it's so frustrating... Guest guest
Don't we have the most caring people on this group! Check everyone out! They come out of the wood work to provide help wanting nothing in return! Thanks everyone! ♥To: miralax Sent: Tue, July 17, 2012 11:13:52 PMSubject: Re: Help...need some advise So sorry your little guy is having a hard time and that you needed to stop breastfeeding early. If you are interested, it is possible to go back to breastfeeding. It is a lot of work, but I know personally a mom who has done it, and she was very glad she did. She started out breastfeeding her son from birth and was told to switch to formula for her baby's allergies, then he did WORSE on formula (and they tried all kinds), and she relactated and went on an elimination diet and he was MUCH better and she was so thankful she was able to go back to breastfeeding him. Guest guest
I'm sorry about your baby's discomfort. The Mayo clinic suggests increasing fluids first and not giving a baby laxatives. I would question a doctor who offers laxatives as a first course of action, when so often constipation is diet related... http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/infant-constipation/AN01089 Best to you and your baby, Carol > > > > If tried several formulas he is currently on Gentlease. Guest guest
I agree! I wish I had known about this when my daughter gave up at 10 mos. I didn't realize it doesn't always mean they are weaning - they can refuse, but will go back. I should have gone to a LLL meeting for support.
