Guest guest
All, We survived storm flooding, moldy house and Dursban exposure, losing most personal possessions from 1991 - 1993. We packed up a toddler, surviving pets and moved several times until we could find a relatively safe place. We have used integrated medicine (combination of western and alternative) and various modalities to address health and immune issues which persist. Unfortunately, taking oral prednisone for a year and a half was one of them (prescribed by allergist.) Pets had steroid injections also. As longterm survivors, I like to report now and then to the group to give you some hope and to ask questions about immune issues that come up. Currently, there are two of us humans and two cats from the initial exposure. On the good side, I am still able to work part time and my son is now in college. The immune compromise issues are a constant challenge but we both try to keep up with it. I was diagnosed with diabetes type 2 about 4 years ago after becoming quite heavy in the abdomen. Even detox protocols didn't seem to break it. There is no family history of diabetes. Back in 1995, our survivor dog was diagnosed with diabetes. We injected her with insulin, she got a major systemic infection and died covered in fungal lesions within a year. This week, one of the two 14 year old (indoor) survivor cats was diagnosed with diabetes. He has blood sugar in the 500s. He got heavy about four weeks ago and started the water/urination behavior accompanied by pacing and meowing at night. The cats have always been given premium diets as recommended by alternative vets and folks at Best Friends, etc. and periodic EFAs and home cooked chicken and broth. The weight gain was rather sudden. The vet wants me to inject the cat with insulin and feed him the " M/D " wet and dry food. She says glypizide doesn't work very well, but I want to give it a try. So, in our case, mold, herbicides, steroid medication exposure and time seem to have produced diabetes. I am sure there are dietary considerations, but we have eaten about 75-80% organic and healthy since 1993. It might be worthwhile for listmates to get their blood sugar tested now and then - your pets too. If anyone has any advice or suggestions of things they've tried, please let me know. Wishing all of you all the best, Mal in California **************Wondering what's for Dinner Tonight? Get new twists on family favorites at AOL Food.
