Guest guest
Fears for ill toddler's health in 'mouldy' flat nlnews@... Islington Gazette - London,England,UK* 23 April 2008 http://www.islingtongazette.co.uk/content/islington/gazette/news/stor y.aspx? brand=ISLGOnline & category=news & tBrand=northlondon24 & tCategory=newsisl g & itemid=WeED23%20Apr%202008%2010%3A22%3A49%3A677 A MOTHER whose toddler suffers from an incurable kidney disease is furious that they are being forced to live in a damp and mouldy flat. Hayley Avis, 29, moved into the flat in Henley Prior, Collier Street, King's Cross, with her 22-month-old son Georgie in January 2007. Within two weeks she noticed that mould had started appearing on the bedroom walls and the flat had become infested with mice. After a string of complaints to the Peabody Trust housing association the flat was redecorated and treated last July, but within four months the mould was back again. Ms Avis, whose son suffers with Cystinuria - an incurable disorder similar to kidney stones, said: " It's ridiculous really. I wouldn't be as worried if it was only me living there but I'm very worried for my son's health. " A spokeswoman for Peabody said: " We are sorry to hear of the problems with Ms Avis's flat. When Ms Avis first contacted us about her mouse problem, we acted immediately. We filled in all visible mouse holes and treated Ms Avis's flat for vermin. A contractor visited Ms Avis's flat in December to treat it for mould. Works will take place this month to eliminate the root cause. Ventilation in the flat will be improved and the two rooms where mould patches have been located will be redecorated.
