If you're able to clean flooded areas in three to four days, you lower your chances of damage and mold forming. When there is mold, it is usually necessary to rip out drywall and wood if there are large amounts of mold. If you do get mold growth, do not use bleach to clean or kill it. Use products like Kilz, which you spray on the area or even paint it on, and it kills the mold. Also, if the mold is severe, call an inspector to do a mold clearance test to make sure that mold spores are not present. Mold can be a problem to those with sensitivity or allergies, but mold only affects people because of the spores it puts out.

Guest guest
Spore tests can onl test for spores. most health problems from mold are caused by particles smaller than spores. Also, spore tests are really inaccurate whenever stachybotrys is involved. Bulk tests are fine (you need to test a piece of mold, which hopefully would not be easy to find during clearance testing!) but the kinds of 'air tests' that are done using spore traps - the kind that use vacumn pumps, often give false negatives! (there often are no stachy spores in the air, even when there is a serious stachybotrys problem- the mold is in particlulates smaller than conidia) This is a serious problem!
