Guest guest
Just wanted to let everyone know that my dad won his battle with the beast at 4:20 a.m. this morning. He peacefully went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. I received a phone call from the nursing home on Thursday evening that dad wasn't feeling well. By 1 a.m. we had him in the emergency room with a bad UTI that had made it's way to dad's blood stream. He was very sick and very weak. We found out yesterday the bacteria in the bloodstream was resistant to the antbiotic they had been using. We were faced with the decision to stop treatment or try a new antibiotic. Dad was by this time unable to swallow. He was weak and barely able to speak above a whisper. We decided to stop treatment and called in hospice. About 12 hours later, he was gone. I know I will miss him terribly but in a strange way, I am at peace and I feel a great relief that it is finally over. Dad is at peace. He told me about 8 hours before he died, " I am not getting better, it is time to quit. " I said, " there's nothing wrong with quitting. " He said, " well then, I quit! " Approximately 8 hours later, he was gone. It was all very peaceful. I was alone with dad, I had called for my sisters but they didn't make it in time. My one sister was coming down the hall, the other was 10 minutes later. I know I didn't post often but I did try to read when I could. I just want to thank all of you for sharing and for all the support you offer one another. It is important, especially when you feel like you are the only one going through this horrible thing. Take care, and my thoughts and prayers are with all of you, loved ones and caregivers alike as you travel this unbelievable journey.
