Guest guest
" A CDC study released May 8 examined records of 144 Mississippi children, some of whom lived in trailers and others who did not. But the study was confined to children who had at least one doctor's visit for respiratory illness before Katrina. It was largely inconclusive, finding children who went to doctors before the August 2005 storm were still visiting them two years after. " " others who did not " ? Why are these children experiencing respiratory problems if they did not even live in the formaldahyde of FEMA trailers? Will this be investigated, too? _http://www.medscape.com/viewarticle/547514_ (http://www.medscape.com/viewarticle/547514) From Environmental Health Perspectives Airborne Mold and Endotoxin Concentrations in New Orleans, Louisiana, after Flooding, October through November 2005 Posted 12/07/2006 M. ; Mervi Hjelmroos-Koski; Miriam Rotkin-Ellman; S. Katharine Hammond Mold. Filamentous microfungi (mold) can threaten human health through release of spores that become airborne and can be inhaled. Some molds produce metabolites (mycotoxins) that can initiate a toxic response in humans or other vertebrates (Robbins et al. 2000). Repeated exposure to significant quantities of fungal material can result in respiratory irritation or allergic sensitization in some individuals (Bush et al. 2006). Sensitized individuals may subsequently respond to much lower concentrations of airborne fungal materials. Of the thousands of types of fungal spores found in indoor and outdoor environments, adverse health effects in humans have most frequently been associated with Alternaria, Aspergillus, Cladosporium, Penicillium, and Stachybotrys (Hossain et al. 2004; Jarvis and 2005; O'Driscoll et al. 2005; Stark et al. 2003). **************Get trade secrets for amazing burgers. Guest guest
Makes you wonder if all the trailers that the school systems use are made the same way?!! It is a nightmare that just gets worse by the minute!! Children in Katrina trailers may face lifelong ailments The Associated Press* By JOHN GONZALES _http://ap.google.http://ap.gohttp://ap.googlehttp://ap.googlehttp://a_ (http://ap.google.com/article/ALeqM5i0obdVKtwUqMG6gEUqc6mnjat9hAD90U4I) NO1 BAY ST. LOUIS, MISS. (AP) — The anguish of Hurricane Katrina should have ended for Bouffanie and her daughter when they left their FEMA trailer. But with each hospital visit and each labored breath her child takes, the young mother fears it has just begun. " It's just the sickness. I can't get rid of it. It just keeps coming back, " said Bouffanie, 27, who was pregnant with her now 15-month- old daughter, Lexi, while living in the trailer. " I'm just like, `Oh God, I wish like this would stop.' If I had known it would get her sick, I wouldn't have stayed in the trailer for so long. " **************Get trade secrets for amazing burgers. Watch " Cooking with Tyler Florence " on AOL Food. Guest guest
What a lot of people don't know is that a certain Dr was down there and giving Gov. people hell about this along time ago and than he was physically escorted out of New Orleans and asked not to come back in not a very nice way. & nbsp; & nbsp; I think there health studies are a joke. I would go straight to the Public schools(not private) and look at special Ed and special needs and look for any increases. & nbsp; Which you know they will find. & nbsp; I know formaldhyde is a big issue but so is mold, & nbsp; By not addressing the mold issue down there is irresponsible and criminal. a
Guest guest
steroids and antibiotics? for toxic exposure? really sad. I like to take all the people who say the illness cant be linked to the toxin and put them in a sealed room with those toxins being their onky air supply and see how long it takes for them to figure it out.
