Guest guest
OT: You know, after all the name calling, yelling and hate that is spewed on FOX, it surprises me that people still watch them enough to post a quote from that station. I scratch my head because you can send people text from earlier speeches on the candidates stances concerning Autism but no one wants to hear that. It is as if a small group of people want to do whatever they can to justify McCain/Palin's behavior and comments. A week ago, it was in the news that McCain canceled a meeting with McCarthy because the topic of Autism was too "controversial" (this from ), yet now, all of a sudden, they want to talk about Autism and help find "a cure". I think that it is irresponsible (or telling of their true concern) for them to only say they want to help find "a cure" when Autism is much more than that. I would prefer they talk about funding for not only research but for families also, talk about IDEA, not only for NCLB when in public schools but for private enrollees also, mention that you will work on getting my child covered with her "preexisting condition" ...... something more specific. (To be fair, I have issues with Clinton talking about "a Cure" also.) I called the McCain headquarters and questioned them about the comment after just reading the initial post in this group and was told that " McCarthy was incorrect and was mistaken." (This was from a staffer and not McCain/Palin themselves.) To me, sounded pretty clear when she spoke to the media. Never once, since January, have I ever been able to get a comment from the McCain campaign concerning Autism and now, all of a sudden, they are on the Autism "bus". The only Republican candidates who cared enough to have a response and send information were Romney and Huckabee. 2 cents Subject: Re:MC Cain & Palin support for Autism on Hannity & ColmesTo: mb12 valtrex Date: Thursday, October 9, 2008, 12:29 PM This is just last minute string pulling... if they had intentions of doing so... it would have been on their original proposals!!! Guest guest
they actually had jenny there to meet with him, but it wasn't over AUTISM being controversial it was on vacciantions being contriversal, a very different things (perhaps not in the minds of us with damaged by vaccination kids) but I can see why he wouldn't want to step there, when you figure what % of kids are unvaccinated he would be killing himself to speak his mind, if you go back in records on his stance and statement on things, BEFORE the trail in the vaccination cases were won this last year he was asked a question specifically on autism and the court case with the red headed girl who won her case with autism being caused by vaccinations. he made a comment (and this was WAY before paylen was on the ticket yet) on I know alot of people have brushed off vaccinations being a cause to autism but something just doesn't make sence in that and needs to be looked into further. so it was talked about BEFORE paylen....WAY before. it was the DAY BEFORE the court case was set I believe and I think he was in texas if you want to look it up. I think THIS speaks volumes on where he stands on that, because if I remember correctly he was down in the polls at that time already as well... Guest guest
We could probably go back and forth all day. Ya know, I'm really tired of people speaking or mentioning Autism and then thinking they deserve a pass because of that. I am extremely familiar with McCain's comments in the past, I'm familiar with his putting his name on Bills created by others concerning Autism that are currently not funded. If the McCain/palin ticket would take steps to have advisors or members of their team who handle Autism questions/future policies that are apart of the package that are available for comments and questions, I would have more respect for them. (scratching my head) Why say you talked to McCarthy about Vaccinations but not about Autism? This is totally opposite of what stated just two days ago when she said the meeting was canceled. To add, McCain needs to "step up" or "go there" concerning the Autism/vaccination link. It's not political suicide because others have done it. I personally just don't understand why they couldn't say more when other candidates have, for example, "we not only need to research the vaccinations but we also need to find out what else is triggering Autism." Instead of calling people terrorist or insinuating that they hang with terrorists, instead of standing by while people at their rallies yell hate-filled epithats, curse out reporters and call an African-American cameraman a "Boy", why not discuss the issues and discuss Autism. If this is a cause that he claims has been behind for a long time, he should have alot to talk about. I think right now, they will say anything to get a Vote (wink-wink) and I hope people aren't falling for it. Guest guest
, I agree with you, but it still didn't stop me from saying "no, please don't go there." when I read your email. I think it's appropriate to mention politics when it directly relates to autism. But otherwise, I think we should leave our political and other opinions aside when we come here. I'm here to learn about how to heal my children. I know you all are too. That's something that unites us and we all can agree on. Let's stick to what we have in common and stay friends. Our children will still need help after this election is over. Guest guest
no McCarthy works as an actress, but trying to make a difference USING that ground to help autism, Paylen is a governer working for her state but trying to use THAT plateform in running (or trying out for a job) to help autism. no different. McCarthy's acting is effecting our kids for autism, but her voice is louder because of it, same for paylin, she has used her media and spot light and PICKED our cause to stand up and use it for, she didn't HAVE to. she CHOOSE to. pharcutical companies advertize for the shows McCarthy has done in between to pay for their air time, any different??? doesn't mean she SUPPORTS them. who cares WHO makes the difference so long as they do, it's going to TAKE someone in government to MAKE some of those changes as YOU and I aren't going to be able to do that from here. Guest guest
Oh, I know I'm not the only one that researches candidates, I would hope that everyone researches their candidate. But, it is telling from some of these comments that it is not being done. Also, I watch mainstream news, read blogs, etc just to see the videos, get a laugh, etc. I don't rely on them for my information. I was surprised but after volunteering, sitting in the audience at local panel debates, etc. my eyes have opened. There is so much that is going on in the political arena that we don't see by just looking at the news on TV. And actually, the candidate who has spoken and advocated the most is Hillary Clinton. (I was surprised by this myself but I was proven wrong on this so I have to give her her props.) All you have to do, is look at the Congressional records ( I would start with 2007 and work backwards) and find out who sponsored what bills, which are continuously funded and which have been forgotten about. To add, make sure you check where the money went; these bills will be sponsored but then all the money goes to NIH, CDC, etc. Parents of SPecial Needs children need relief!! Shoot, I need a tax break for medical expenses and Autism treatment should fall under that. Guest guest
I agree, and if Obama had a special needs kid I'd wonder why he didn't want to take more of an active role in his upbringing as well. Subject: Re:MC Cain & Palin support for Autism on Hannity & ColmesTo: mb12 valtrex Date: Thursday, October 9, 2008, 4:01 PM They are the same to me. They are the same as any single high powered job, or low-wage shift work job. If she was a high powered attorney or heart surgeon, would you be screaming at her to quit her job and stay at home knitting booties? It's like we've all regressed back 60 years in time. It was, Rah Rah! Women in power! We are just like men! We are equal! Then, when a woman with children comes into the public eye, now it's "What a horrible mom! She should be at home with the kids!" Can't have it both ways. It's crazy... no one is complaining that Obama never sees his kids, he's been campaigning to be prez most of their lives- why isn't he a lousy Dad? How about "Bye Bye Daddy" ?? How many nights per week do you seriously think he is at home to read bedtime stories and tuck his two young daughters in bed? Why is this different? Guest guest
WE sign their checks. They work for us. The Government didn't cause this hurt, people did. We all have a hand in it because it is our society. We are the ones who vote or don't. We are the ones who spend more time keeping up with the 's then keeping up with what is in our food, toys. We are the ones that expect someone else is taking care of it. I'm not blaming each of us, but as a whole we have to change how we view the powers that be. We are them. ( now, obviously people on these groups are doing something about it) In 2001, I had my son. I read progressive magazines that talked about vaccine dangers. I considered the concept and them ignored it and did what my Doc said I should do. I ASSUMED someone was keeping tabs on it. Someone had done the research, someone, someone, someone. I never checked. Don't get me wrong, I'm not beating myself up, I just woke up and realized the Wizard of OZ is really just some man who isn't any smarter then me. BUT, thank God there were people in the Autism community that were and never stopped fighting because now I can recover my child and keep my other children out of harms way. Sorry for the rant Maureen Re:MC Cain & Palin support for Autism on > Hannity & Colmes> > > > > > This is just last minute string pulling... if they had > intentions of doing so... it would have been on their original > proposals!!! Guest guest
Here in NJ I was turned down for SSI and Medicaid. I was told I wasn't eligible because we had two vehicles. One is our family van-we are a family of six-two with autism. and the other is my husbands work truck which was almost reposessed a few days before I applied. She insisted that I was not eligible because we were not needy if we had two cars. I don't know which we were supposed to lose-the one I need to transport my kids or the one that got my husband to work! Income wise we are well below poverty level for our family size. But none of that was even looked at. They said there was nothing they could do for me. Luckily my husband started a new job and we will have insurance in about three months. We have not had any in about a year and a half and had gone without it for a while before that as well. I wish I could have afforded a lawyer to fight it. But every penny went to food and trying to hold onto o ur house. --------- Re:MC Cain & Palin support for Autism on Hannity & ColmesTo: mb12 valtrex@ yahoogroups. comDate: Thursday, October 9, 2008, 12:29 PM This is just last minute string pulling... if they had intentions of doing so... it would have been on their original proposals!!! Hopefully we can pay off everything once I'mfinished with school. But we are lucky, we did/do have some healthinsurance, just didn't pay for anything Allie needed at the time. I'm convinced a lot of people flat out lie to get some of theservices. I know way too many people better off than my fam who getthe works, and I know others worse off who get nothing. The only waythat happens is by lying. But I do also think sometimes the intakepeople pick & choose who they want to get services. Guest guest
Whatever. You don't know me. I'm not BETTER than anyone. I have watched my child regress into a child who sees no souls. Pailin... she is NOT like me. She chose to have a special needs child. Good for her. I didn't. I am at least honest when I say I did not choose this for me or my family, and especially for my son. She is NOT like US. Her experience with special needs has not really even begun. Some of the people posting are 10-15+ year veterans. Pailin does not compare. Let us tap into her future to see how she manages. I'm sorry she has a future of 'special needs'. None of us wanted that. My point about her and her current status of running for VP... She not only has a Down Syndrome newborn baby, but a pregnant (oh is that to sacred to talk about?) 16 year old. Maybe she should "Focus on the Family" a little bit more. Obama is not tucking his kids into bed every night either, I know, but at least it is not his oldest child picking up the slack for him. They are politicians, and despite the Republicans joke, none of them are the Messiah. Enough Already. Subject: Re:MC Cain & Palin support for Autism on Hannity & ColmesTo: mb12 valtrex Date: Thursday, October 9, 2008, 5:32 PM That's exactly the point, you don't have any idea how "active" she is in any of her kids lives. None of us do about any of the candidates. I guess Obama is excused from being a good father because his kids are "normal." What a weird argument! I have no problems with all of these debates on autism policies and politics between all the candidates, in fact I rather enjoy them. I would just like the self-righteous, superior "I am a BETTER Special Needs Mom than she is!" posts to die a quick death.
