ileus is reported on the fda adverse reactions many many times. See files sectionTo: Miralax <miralax >Sent: Fri, May 25, 2012 2:36:06 PMSubject: New to group

HelloIm new to the group. My son was off and on Miralax for 4 years. It was prescribed by 2 GI's and his pediatrician.I started seeing side affects from it and took him off of it.I contribute his long term battle with Encopresis to it and I really think the reason he losthis ability to push out stool was because Miralax made it so soupy that helost that muscle tone to push. He is recovering now on a new program, but I wonder about long term affects of Miralax.I joined this group wondering if anyone else experienced lack of muscle tone due to Miralaxand any other developmental

delays.Thanks

sorry, forgot to add.............in my opinion, I think this is a result of them using this chemical longer than the manufacturer's advice. This is probably the reason for it, in my opinion! :) To: miralax Sent: Fri, May 25, 2012 3:43:36 PMSubject: Re: New to

Is there any other possibility other than this Miralax!!!! Some background information, my son is 5 years old, has been on miralax for 2 years from his gastroenterologist. He was referred to him for constipation and difficulty having a bowel movement. When he did it was baseball sized and clay form. He would scream and vomit from the pain and straining. After days of fighting and arguing with my ex-husband and pediatrician that something was wrong, I was able to convince his pediatrician that something wasn't right and got the referral. The gastro dr had him start miralax at a full capful a day and then flex schedule it. It loosened

him up to the point where he couldn't hold it in to make it to the bathroom. He officially didn't stop wearing pull-ups until almost 4 years old and even now has accidents in his underwear. He has no sensation that he has to go, and I have to remind him everyday to "try". He gets extremely bloated and is often very fatigued, complains of his legs falling asleep, and that he has a headache. He is also very emotional. One minute hes a happy little kid, the next hes screaming in rage and anger and the next he cries for no reason. I have had his gastro dr test him for cystic fibrosis, allergies, and he's had several procedures to check his bowels for obstructions - all negative. The next tests were supposed to be a colonoscopy to check for polyps and MS, but my ex-husband threw a fit and had my son discharged from the office. I am at a complete loss. He is suppose to be starting school next year and we have to get this under control. I know at my house, he

eats a fiber rich diet and lots of fruits & veggies. I specifically buy high fiber snacks for him - making sure he is getting at least 10 grams a day. Its hard to say what really goes on at my ex-husband's house as we do not have a good relationship and unfortunately, our son suffers from it. Is there something I am missing? Deep down I know it is not "constipation". He even gets constipated on miralax! One time on it, he had a rectal prolapse! No one has answers for me and my ex-husband thinks I'm nuts that he's fine! HELP!!!!!

Please check out www.soilingsolutions.com

This has changed my sons life and many others in a very positive way.

My son was on Miralax off and on for 4 years. He had similiar symptoms as your son.

He is almost 8 now and the Miralax ruined his ability to keep clean and his ability to push.

He lost total sensation on what it was like to have a bowel movement.

When we started Soiling Solutions program, I took him off of Miralax and he has not soiled from day 1!

It takes a LONG time to heal a stretched out colon or one damaged from meds, but it is possible.

60 days into the program my son started to feel the urge to go and to push and this is after 4 years of

soiling and encopresis (holding). He is now on just Olive Oil and doing great on it as a natural alternative, but

I dont think it would have worked without doing Soiliing solutions first to give him back the sensation to

have a normal bowel movement.

Our pediatrician and 2 GI's bulk at doing anything outside of Miralax. I told them to take a hike after

the Soiling Solutions program started working for us. 60 days later I called the pediatrician and told her about

it. She was very opposed at first, then she called me back the next day and wanted to learn more.

Things are going well for us now. I hope you find a solution as well.
