Guest guest
- You are among Wheat Belly friends I have also dropped the wheat and not the weight... this is especially frustrating when you follow their FB posts and see lots of peeps losing lots of weight. Dr. , the book's author, has chimed in and said to frustrated followers that if they aren't losing, they should really look at thyroid as the culprit. He also said something once about thinking endo's are among the most useless group of docs for thyroid patients Right now, I am trying to build up my adrenals in order to titrate ever so slowly back onto "very clean" compounded thyroid meds (everything has given me heart palps). Here are TWO nuggets of hope, along with the feeling better off wheat that you mentioned (less bloating in my case): 1. My antibodies have come down 30 pts, which marks about 10 pts per month of wheat free. And that's w/o 100% compliance. 2. Weight gain has stopped. Oh YES, I want to lose so bad it tastes better than wheat...but ceasing to gain is also pretty encouraging. To go buy the same size instead of another size larger is a nice respite for now. Every glimmer of hope counts!Welcome.Deanna To: Thyroiditis Sent: Wednesday, June 6, 2012 1:43 PM Subject: Lab results Hi, everyone. I'm just joining this group and would like to post my lab results in hopes that someone can give my some advice. I have Hashimotos and am on Armour. In March, I started the Wheat Belly Diet, which is low carb and haven't lost any weight. I feel so much better and will not ever go back to eating wheat but the weight loss or lack thereof is puzzling, since almost all of the other people on their blog have dropped weight quickly.Has anyone had this problem and figured out what to do about it? Guest guest
Deanna, Thank you for your encouragment. I'm hoping that after being off of wheat for a while, that it will start happening for me.I ate mainly carbs for so many years that I may have messed myself up. I'm waiting for my doctor to get back from vacation to discuss my labwork. Hopefully, he will have an answer for me. I'm going to talk to him about trying some Armour from Northwest Pharmacy in Canada. As I posted the second time, I had used them before but only once. They are a trusted Pharmacy and I'm thinking that their formula may be a little different. I'm not giving up, though, because I feel so much better. Guest guest
Hi , I used, followed and combined the best things from several diets - Thurmond's 6-Day Body Makeover (body type), Mediterranean Diet, Blood Type Diet and the Paleo Diet- and lost over 100 pounds in five months. I did NOT count calories. I was never hungry and eat 4-7 mini meals and snacks each day. Eating regularly has been the hardest thing for me to do consistently, even now. I only ate natural and organic foods when possible. I was very out of shape and could barely manage walking for exercise. Again, I ate smaller mini meals often throughout the day and walked every day. The first week I lost 13 pounds. One thing that I believe helped enhance my weight-loss is chitosan. I took it faithfully 10-15 minutes before eating three times a day. Also, anyone over weight has leptin resistance, where our brain does NOT register leptin signals and thus we feel hungry all the time. The best way to shake it is to walk, as walking improves leptin sensitivity in the brain. In addition, I have read that there are two type II diabetic drugs, Byetta and Symlin, that can decrease leptin resistance, but have no first knowledge. A dear friend used/followed a plan called Clean Program. It is a detox that recharges your liver. It is working very well for her; she lost 80 #s and 30 inches. The asthma and eczema she had had for over 30 years disappeared. The downside, it is fairly expensive. It might be helpful to rule out Candida, other gut bugs, food intolerances, mineral deficiencies etc. Essential supplements according to my doc are magnesium, omega 3, B vitamins and vitamin C. Replenish vitamin and mineral deficiencies – test vitamin D, iron, b-12, zinc etc. Eat regular meals, I eat meals every 3-4 hours to keep my body constantly nourished, not eating for longer periods stresses our Stress System and can tell our brains to store fat instead of burn it. Exercise routinely and get to bed/sleep by 10 pm. Remove stressors from your life or at the very least significantly lessen them. We can't remove all but we can learn to deal much better with them or die. Not eating regularly, not exercising and not getting enough sleep are HUGE stresses. Chronic recurrent infections can and often harm our immune system. When our bodies are in a constant state of stress, the adrenals can become exhausted from the constant demand for more cortisol and stop producing adequate amounts. See Dr Lam's website: http://www.drlam.com/articles/adrenal_fatigue.asp Shomon, a national thyroid advocate and author, has a great thyroid website. You will benefit from her Thyroid 101 section, all newbie's should read it. Her books are at: http://www.thyroid-info.com Look at your local library, I try before buying. Her book, " Living Well With Hypothyroidism: What Your Doctor Doesn't Tell You...That You Need to Know " is a good place to start. Also see ~ http://thyroid.about.com and http://thyroid.about.com/cs/basics_starthere/a/thyroid101.htm Thyroid meds should not be taken near calcium and iron. Cal/iron should not be taken together either. One last thing... Most doctors conveniently forget or don't understand that Hashimoto's Thyroiditis is an " autoimmune " disease and the thyroid is the target. The thyroid doesn't go haywire on its own. The AI system for whatever reason starts targeting body tissue as the enemy, in our case the thyroid. Putting a thyroid drug in the person doesn't fix the AI system. Most of us have had great difficulty in restoring even to some extent our well being and health unless we address everything, especially our lifestyle including diet, exercise and sleep. Warm wishes, ~Bj > > Deanna, Thank you for your encouragment. Guest guest
Hi, Bj, Thanks for the info. First of all, if you looked at me you probably wouldn't think that I am overweight, and in fact, my doctor says that I don't even need to lose any, but I would like to lose 10 pounds. The way you are eating is the way that I ate for quite a while before I found the WBD and lost a couple of pounds, but it wouldn't budge after that, and I am a regular walker and do weight training, so it wasn't the exercise that kept me from losing. As far as the supplements go, I take all of those except iron and zinc, except for what's in my multi.Eating the wheat belly way has made a lot of sense, but most people on it lose weight, so I think it does have something to do with my thyroid. I will check out those sites that you sent me and hopefully I can get it all figured out. Thank you. > > > > Deanna, Thank you for your encouragment. Guest guest
Bj, I forgot to mention that I don't take anything else near the time of my Armour. In fact, I take my Armour when I wake up to use the restroom at night. That way, I don't have to worry about taking it around mealtimes, or supplements. One thing I do, though, is since it is at night and I don't want to be getting up again during the night, I only take a sip of water with it. I've been wondering if that is causing a problem. > > > > Deanna, Thank you for your encouragment.
