Guest guest
I would guess they do have iodine. I couldn't find iodine info for specific types of fish in the fish oil supplements in my frig (which I haven't taken yet) - sardines, mackerel, anchovies - but I did find this article: http://www.livestrong.com/article/499977-iodine-levels-in-sardines/ > > Does anyone know if fish oil capsules or liquid has iodine? We're trying to restrict our iodine intake with the Hashimoto's. >
Guest guest
Hi, Although fish oil may contain a little bite of iodine, the amounts of iodine aren't likely to be much at all. Most fish oil supplements do not contain enough iodine to cause thyroid problems or other iodine-related health problems. National Institutes of Health does not warn against fish oil use for people with iodine allergy, thyroid disorder or people taking thyroid medication. In fact, the medical community recommends fish oil for people with hypo or hyperthyroidism, due to its potential of anti-inflammatory properties. When in doubt, call the manufacture for verification. I encourage you to do extensive research on the thyroid and iodine. I have never found a *real* good explanation as to why I should not supplement with iodine. Every doctor (except my bio-chemist MD and Dr Brownstein) could not clearly explain why iodine shuts down the thyroid - BUT I need to know how or why? Even in the book: Why Do I Still Have Thyroid Symptoms? Authored by Dr Kharrazian (a chiropractor) only takes us part of the way when explaining thyroid mechanism. Also, for every medical study against iodine there is another for it. Sometimes we have to read between the lines and gleam info that is not written down for us. I am a Hashis doing so much better with iodine than I did when I was deficient. Definitely, something each one of us has to decide. , what brand of fish oil are you taking? I can only buy non-shellfish like salmon oil now because of my delayed allergens to shellfish. Best, ~Bj > > > > Does anyone know if fish oil capsules or liquid has iodine? Guest guest
Hi BJ - I have Puritan's Pride Omega-3 fish oil. I actually got it as a free or cheap sample a while back, haven't started taking it yet. I take EPO and eat flax seed daily, I wonder if that is enough. Did you notice a difference on it? > > > > > > Does anyone know if fish oil capsules or liquid has iodine? Guest guest
Hi , I assume you are talking about evening primrose oil. I have not tried it but I also try to eat flax seed every day. I believe Omega 3 is very helpful to everyone. Once I forgot to take it with me while on vacation and I felt somewhat fatigued and absent-minded or forgetful. I won't be without omega 3 fatty acids, again, I believe it kept me alive and probably saved my life when I was at my lowest point when robbed by the very biased and bad doctors of T3. Flaxseed contains ALA (alpha lipoic acid) a powerful antioxidant that has the ability to " recycle " other antioxidants. Fish oil contains, EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid), which has been shown to support heart health and DHA (docosahexaenoic acid) benefits not only the heart but also the brain and eye health throughout life. Numerous studies confirm that everyone, from infants to the elderly adults, benefits from an adequate supply of DHA. Lack of omega-3 in the body can cause a communication breakdown in the brain. Everyone should get a sufficient amount of all these. Does ALA deliver the same benefits as EPA and DHA? The jury's still out on that! A while back I read a study that showed ALA can convert to EPA but only when ALA is taken in high doses such as 3 to 4 grams a day. I'm sticking to my salmon oil and flaxseed or walnuts for now. I believe ALA is very helpful in regulating blood sugar, besides helping us with nerve damage and numbness common in Hashis. BTW, have you taken EPO for more than six months? I read that is should not be taken any longer than that. Take care, ~Bj > > > > > > > > Does anyone know if fish oil capsules or liquid has iodine?
