Conspicuous by its absence is the teacher on this list. Teachers stand for long

periods of time and run off copies of work for children as well as in some very

old work situations, rex-o-graph machines were used, where teachers were

loading machines with copy fluid, for 40 years, over the career, without gloves,

masks or other protections.

Kids would take the copies and have the smell of semi wet copies, to work on.

Often the teacher had her/his own machine right in the classroom or would have a

child wheel it to another classroom for another teacher's use.

These were primitive copy machines, which certainly emitted stuff into the

classroom to be inhaled by the children and the teacher. Over time these

materials have been deemed, along with other stuff to be carcinogenic. It is

important to know what kinds of materials are being used by your children's

schools.

What ever happened to copying from the blackboard, where kids learned to copy

accurately, had better handwriting and less dependent on machine printed work?

This was always a way for a teacher to pick up on when a child had poor vision

that might have escaped a routine office visit or had developed between routine

physicals.
