Guest guest
Does anyone have a doctor who recommended magnesium citrate or another magnesium for their child's constipation? No, in fact my Dr. advised against strongly, when I asked her why, she said she thinks there might be aluminum in it. I haven't been able to find anything that suggests that... she keeps telling me to use miralax, and I continue to use milk of magnesium... I try not to use it every day... doing fruit-eze, vitamin c, lots of water, herblax, no lactose, no gluten, but MOM keeps him going... has anyone heard of aluminum concerns or other concerns with regular MOM usage? Guest guest
Our naturopathic doctor Rondeau (www.wholeness.com) has recommended that we give my daughter magnesium citrate with calcium for constipation. She didn't have constipation when she was on the diet he recommended; the gluten-free casein-free diet, but now she is off that diet and gets constipated. A bunch of Moms on the yahoo group MB12Valtrex who give natural supplements to their children with autism recommended magnesium citrate with calcium also. The brand we use is Pure Encapsulations. My daughter is too little to swallow capsules, so we break them open and mix them into baby food and then suck it into a syringe and squirt it into her mouth. She takes two capsules in the morning and two at night. Any less, and the constipation causes urinary tract infections because of a structural abnormality she was born with in her urinary tract that surgery could only fix so much. Guest guest
One of the reasons I quit using milk of magnesia is because my child couldn't handle the thick texture. Kid Calm is magnesium and you can mix in any drink, no grit. There is aluminum in pancake mix though..............I couldn't find the aluminum in it either. Ask her for documents to back up her theroy.Vitamin shoppe carry's, wellness practitioner's alsoTo: miralax Sent: Mon, May 28, 2012 10:17:23 PMSubject: Re: Anyone have dr recommend magnesium? Guest guest
Sorry to jump in but there is a liquid Cal Mag by Bluebonnett. We use the blueberry flavor. Just place in oral syringe & follow by a sip of Rice Dream rice drink. This was also recommended by a nutritionist as more bioavailable than a powder form. HTH. Guest guest
If you use Kid Calm, it tastes pretty bitter. We mixed it into PlumSmart...made it a lot better. But, Kid Calm works! Guest guest
There may be aluminum in PEG too. This is from out petition.... Aluminum This article states that untreated PEG in weights over 3000 can be contaminated with heavy metals, including Aluminum, a neurotoxin. What testing is done to ensure that no heavy metals are in PEG 3350 final products? http://www.plantphysiol.org/content/61/4/708.full.pdf If you use Kid Calm, it tastes pretty bitter. Guest guest
Does anyone have an idea of how much magnesium to give a 25 month old child? We're interested in trying Kid Calm, but aren't sure how much to give. Is there a rule of thumb that you've heard about? Or does the packaging have recommended amounts? > > > One of the reasons I quit using milk of magnesia is because my child couldn't handle the thick texture. Guest guest
I didn't realize that they discontinued Kid Calm - here's the link so you can see what it was: http://iherb.com/p/5120?rcode=rot043 Here's a link to a similar product: http://iherb.com/p/5122?rcode=rot043 For my son, I started (age 3) with the Kid Calm but switched to the Natural Calm anyway. The Kid Calm formula included Vit c, the Natural Calm is just magnesium. For my son I started with the equivalent of 300mg of magnesium and went up until I he had a fairly loose bowel movement, then backed down a little. For him this meant going up to 1000 mg for several weeks (yes that's triple the RDA)/ For nearly a year he was at about 600mg and now at age 9 - only when he gets sluggish, and then all that's needed is about 300mg. I added other items too -- especially probiotics. I believe the main reason I was able to back off the magnesium after a year was that I finally got him wheat (gluten) and diary free. Looking back, I think if I had done that sooner he would have gotten better faster. Guest guest
Oops -- forgot to add that both the MD and ND said no problem at 500 or 600 mg, but that 1000mg was OK for short term. Mainly due to the fact that to build strong bones you need a balance of mag, cal, vit d and phos. > > > > > > > > > One of the reasons I quit using milk of magnesia is because my child couldn't handle the thick texture.
