Guest guest
What is the cost comparison ratio between these products and regular wallboard. I assume they are more expensive, how much so and which are the best price/erformance, in people's opinions? There are a zillion 'green' products on the market but not infrequently they are little different than the others, except on price. If I was beginning a project and I had the option of using an alternative wallboard, how much more would I need to pay to get peace of mind in a hurricane situation or the like.. (or a undetected leak, etc.) What brands would you recommend? Also, what are the relative merits of metal vs. wood framing? I know that some new wood has a bit of a smell.. (pine, etc.) Has this been problematic for people? Is metal better? I am more familiar with wood, but I'm curious about metal, as I see it on a lot of new construction. I am guessing that it 'resists mold' very well (duh) but obviously, they have to attach the sheetrock with screws and then you have all the problems that sheetrock has. Plus, the studs have holes in them.. so I assume that if wind gets in, the walls dont have the resistance and compartmentalized nature of wood. Perhaps with metal framing wind can just whistle through once it is inside of interior uninsulated walls? Or am I making a mountain out of a molehill? I guess I am wondering how metal framed houses compare to wooden framed ones. Do people ever use anything else? I suppose composite woods are everywhere else.. do they ever show up in framing? What kind of wood is the best for moldies? Someone asked me if I have a web page or am building one. No, not right now. This question is actually because this question came up for me recently and I didn't really know how to respond. And it was something that I thought I should know much more about. If I do build one, you folk will be the first to know. But I am still working on regaining my health. Thats my top priority. I don't have the energy to do justice to a web page on this stuff yet. I'm just hoping to do something when I get better. Start out small. Maybe that will be my therapy. Right now its still out of the question. Not that I have not tried, I have. I do think about it a lot. On Fri, Jun 6, 2008 at 11:27 PM, cathy desmond <cahydesmond@...> wrote: > Aura products might have what you are looking for. Also check the net for > natural adhesives.
