Guest guest
I wanted to share with you the letter I sent to the reporter who wrote the UConn President's home and mold story. Mulvey son _http://www.courant.com/news/education/hc-house0530.artmay30,0,7512684.story_ (http://www.courant.com/news/education/hc-house0530.artmay30,0,7512684.story) " The university now plans to use the president's house for meetings, lectures and other activities, but does not plan to remove the mold and mildew, Grava said. " Grace Merritt, Hartford Currant Thank you for an excellent story. I read with great interest about mold in the President's home at UConn and he and his wife's trepidation living in the home because of her severe allergies to mold. Very smart move to stay out of that house. The University of Connecticut has played a major role in helping clinicians to recognize, diagnose and treat people who have been sickened by mold exposure. (please find document attached) This document was written a few years ago and we hope that it will be updated to reflect the ever increasing understanding of illnesses due to mold exposure. The UConn guidance was written as a direct result of an Institute of Medicine study of mold illnesses. Some of the members of the IOM report also participated in the development of the UConn document. I was very surprised, however, that the university would continue to use this home for meetings, lectures, etc. but not further remediate the mold problem. Why would they let people go into this building at all for any reason without removing the mold? Makes no sense to me especially in light of UConn's leadership on mold and illness. I have been working with Sharon Kramer from California and other people across the country on the issue of mold illnesses, myself personally for the past 8 years. We are working individually and collectively on the federal, state and local levels to raise awareness and bring truth to the science and medicine of mold exposure and illness. Mold exposure medical problems are very real and dangerous to so many. In the course of our advocacy, we discovered that some doctors in very high and influential positions were basically operating as spokespersons for private industry and not public health. When we discovered evidence to back up our fears, we turned the information over to Senator Kennedy who requested a GAO on our behalf. We also turned the information over to the Wall Street Journal who, after an exhaustive 6+ month investigation, produced a front page, top-of-the-fold story exposing these doctors. We then presented the information to Congressman Waxman's Committee on Government Oversight and Reform and await notification of a hearing date. So, to make a long story short, if this house is not fit for human habitation as living quarters, then no one should go into it until it's fixed. Guest guest
One hand does not know what the other hand is doing. They can create a document and " talk the talk " that is credible, and not " walk the walk " by putting theory into actual practice, incredible!
