Guest guest
Hi Stacey, I am not a medical doctor, but do know that if you think your environment might be causing your illnesses, the first thing you should do is go away for - preferably a couple of weeks - then come back and see if your symptoms change while away and then back again. Not necessarily all better and then all worse - just a notable change. If you can go somewhere that the air is fresh, such as a coast and not stay in a moldy environment, that would help to understand. Camping at the beach for a family vacation? Guest guest
Stacey, Funny you mention that. K.C was the first to introduce me to the vinager thing and that has bee an absolute godsend. Vinager can be used for a multitude of things from ear infections to laundry. I use about a cup in every load. Borax is another great solution. I will get you that information. I am glad you two have joined the group and you will find many GREAT people here. I will let the others give you the other information asked about and again welcome to the group. Guest guest
Hi Stacey, The only thing that cleared my infectious sinusitis was Nizoral antifungal spray for three years of use, three/four times a day. My sinus/facial area was in extreme pain and the doctors kept prescribing antibiotics which never cleared it.It took years to clear and lots of die off pain, but it was worth it! As for detergent, I react to Dreft too. The only one I can tolerate now is Seventh Generation Baby (NFI). Some of the other Seventh Generation products are reactive to me but this one seems to be okay. I always rinse all the clothes in vinegar to assure all scents from public exposures are out. I also add baking soda. You may want to consult with an alternative type practitioner regarding your kids. Once my son was out of the reactive environment and doing CSM and other detox protocols, behavior calmed down. Taking away all scented products for cleaning and personal products continued to enhance the calmness, and after his exposures he was tested for celiac disease which he tested positively for so now he eats no wheat, rye, barely, oats, and no sugars. He is on Shoemakers' no mold diet as well. Controlling the diet for these reactive foods also enhances behavior. No more generic drugs with fillers, additives, colorings, dyes, etc. No more drugs processed by aspergillus for us. Just things to consider. We are both trying Dr. Pall's supplements(NFI) for our chemical intolerance and it seems to help with the reactivity. Just added chlorella, magnesium, and buffered vitamin C which have also helped.Watching all supplements for sugars, dyes, colorings, additives, perservatives, etc. is extremely important when one is sensitive in my opinion. Can't believe what I allowed into my body for much of my life!
Guest guest
Well I don't know for sure but all those sinus issues would indicate ongoing mold exposure in your home, wouldn't it? I don't know the whole history of your home or exposure...maybe it is still in your belongings or you are all colonized with it. Have you tried antifungals: nystatin, caprylic acid, or diflucan? To reduce your own body's load? Re: detergents, I've been having issues with those because of our laundry room. People use fabric softener and it sticks to the dispensers and gets into the machines and reeks. Its petroleum based with toxic chemicals and sticks to stuff. Then it gets on my clothes and I react. Why don't you use only 1/8 cup of a natural detergent like Seventh Generation, and then follow with a wash with vinegar in the rinse. I've been doing this downstairs and sometiems I have to do two vinegar rinses to get other people's scented detergent and fabric softener down to tolerable levels in my own clothes. Also there is a way to clean your own washer--I think you put in something like baking soda and vinegar when the rinse cycle has filled up, and manually turn it to spin, so that the water spins out high intensity with the baking soda and vinegar. This is supposed to clean the outer drum that is in the washer that you can't see. > > Hello! My name is Stacey and I am United States Vet's SIL (thanks for > the referral). Guest guest
Hi Stacey, Have you and your family been exposed to toxic mold? If so the first step is to get on anti-fungal and/or cholestyramine medication immediately. From my experience with toxic mold i had to take both medications. That will help the whole family with main and secondary medical issues that resulted from toxic mold exposure. For clothes detergent go to your local grocery store or walmart or other store like this and look for non-fragrance hypoallergenic detergents. there are some right off the shelves. Really consider these meds if you have not done so already. God Bless your entire family elias From: Stacey <staceycannon27@...> Subject: [] New to the group, intro and questions... Guest guest
Howdy. I'm Norm, USVet's brother and Stacey's husband. Also new to the board. My brother just informed us of his condition, so obviously we want to look into it, both to understand and support him in hwat he's going through, but pursue all possibilities when it comes to family member medical histories. To add to Stacey's notes, her symptoms, all of them, have only come about since our marriage, so I'm fairly confident that at least the first apartment we lived in may have had something to do with her medical issues. It seems that every new environment we've lived in adds to the list, though not sure how much has to do with the facilities we're in and how much is the environmental locations (allergies, etc). I find it interesting that she grew up on a farmaround all kinds of potential allergens with no reactions, then after we get married and she moves in with me she begins developing signs of asthma. As for my 4 year old, I'm pretty confident in the Pediatric Bipolar Disorder diagnosis (and believe me, we were all hesitant to diagnose so young), but want to explore more about the possibilities of the 4- 3-53 strain my brother referred to. I haven't been able to find any info on it yet through web searches. Since our mother has never been tested for this or fully diagnosed as Bipolar (though I'm 100% certain she is, with or without the strain), we don't fully know what genetic traits, medical issues, or mental disorders have been passed on to my brother and I, and therefore to our children. So again, I want to explore these issues to see how they may or may not apply and decide what areas we may want to test our children in. My own allergies (been allergy tested about a million times) indicate strong allergies to grasses, weeds, and molds. I'm constantly stuffed up, no matter what medications I take, inclduing allergy shots. So any insight into the particular DNA strain and or connections/previous confusions between the DNA strain and bipolar disorder would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Norm --- In , " Stacey " <staceycannon27@...> wrote: > > Hello! My name is Stacey and I am United States Vet's SIL (thanks for > the referral). Guest guest
Sharon, I was just talking to my husband about that. We actually were away from home for about 3 weeks, and my irritation to the water went away immediately. It seems that showering here, causes me a lot of discomfort, yet as soon as we went to Missouri, I was fine, then on to Oklahoma I was fine, and even in Jamaica I was fine. But as soon as we came back here and I took my first shower, ALLLLL the irritation came back with a vengence. I don't know what to do considering I can't avoid the water here... As far as my sinus issues, they are consistent no matter where I am, and the same goes for the asthma. The main one that is truly aggrivating and uncomfortable is the allergy to the water (and this includes all clothing washed in this water...). > > > Hi Stacey, > > I am not a medical doctor, but do know that if you think your environment > might be causing your illnesses, the first thing you should do is go away for - > preferably a couple of weeks - then come back and see if your symptoms change > while away and then back again. Guest guest
My husband is in the military, and that has required us to move every two to three years, so I think that it is strange to have consistent sinus issues despite moving to different climates, homes, and environments. Cleaning out the washer is an excellent suggestion. I hadn't thought to do that, and I should have. We recently moved into an apartment that has the stackable kind, and no telling who had used them in the past. I am feeling ill thinking that I hadn't cleaned them and hadn't even thought to clean them. Thank you so much for that suggestion!! I will absolutely do that!!! --- In , " jill1313 " <jenbooks13@...> wrote: > > Well I don't know for sure but all those sinus issues would indicate > ongoing mold exposure in your home, wouldn't it? Guest guest
Stacey & Norm, Welcome to the group you two. It's a real pleasure seeing other family members join to investigate and learn more surrounding this condition and exposure. Stacey you mentioned something as far as your reaction after taking showers (or during). Something you may want to consider, your shower head may be contaminated (mold growth) where the air meets the water. That continues to sit in the shower head itself. Sensitivity people may react to the spores that become airborne in the mist or water droplets. Hospitals have reported this, that it has caused further infections to the immunocompromised. What I would recommend is take a cup of white vinegar big enough to hold up over the shower head to help clean or prevent mold or mildew growth. You can also try baking soda. Thats the easy way or replace your shower head. Just a thought. Guest guest
Stacey, Cross contamination is one aspect many do not think about. You are bringing the contaminates with you, whatever they may be. In this case most likely mold. Also, there are many, many reports on contaminated on or off base housing, military housing is at its worse and I've seen many disturbing pictures. They are run down and not up to par. Several months ago I believe congress was looking into military housing and the condition they are in, due to the fact of poor maintance and very old buildings. Guest guest
Yes, you are absolutely correct in your ideas about base housing...The brand new stuff is fine, but more often than not, they put families in horribly old, smelly, filth infested homes and expect us to just deal with it. Our last home (where we moved from last month) was brand new, so we lucked out there, but we have lived in the horrid housing about 5 years ago... > > > > > > > > Hello! Guest guest
Get a shower filter and a sink filter and see if that helps? > > > > > > Hi Stacey, > > > > I am not a medical doctor, but do know that if you think your > environment > > might be causing your illnesses, the first thing you should do is > go away for - > > preferably a couple of weeks - then come back and see if your > symptoms change > > while away and then back again. Guest guest
I'm glad if I could help. Use both baking soda and vinegar in alternate washes and do it a few times. Air dry your clothes. It could be fabric softeners used by the other people though I don't know why that would affect the shower. I can tell you some of my stuff has been ruined by stupidly putting it in a washer that had fabric softener gook. I wash and wash it but I can't get it out. It can't be gotten out frankly. It doesn't soften, it coats and sticks. If you look at the MSDS on fabric softener its frightening. > > > > > > Hello! Guest guest
Thank you for all of that info! Thankfully, neither of us smokes, and so that isn't an additional issue. I have used those saline nasal rinses, and know exactly what Dr. Oz episode you are referring to. I think I should be doing that rinse more often. I will look into those other products...Thanks so much for all the helpful information!!!
Guest guest
Since we don't use fabric softener but wish we could, I think that this is much needed!!! I'll def check that out. > > On the fabric softner thing I have found somthing at Sears that has eliminated this problem for me. They are spiked balls that not only help fluff up your cloths but keep out static electricity and have NO odor. They are GREAT.. >
