I've had both AN's removed and my balance has been signifigantly affected, I

don't use an aid like a crutch but I tend to walk with a very wide stance and

have to use railings on stairs and running is pretty much out of the

question.

I guess my strategy with falling when I ski is, I don't. Seriously speaking,

I ski'd for 11 years before I had my AN removal and I was rather good, able

to ski the expert level trails, now I restrict myself to the Beginner and

the easier intermediate trails. I tend to go much slower and my skills are

definitely not what they used to be. But by doing all that, I tend not to

wipe out or fall very often but when I do, I can't say as it was much

different than in my pre-AN removal days, the softness of the snow and the

padding of the clothing tends to cushion the fall. I do know what you mean by

falling hard, as I've fallen while trying to jog and it's more like I just

drop to the pavement. My biggest problem while skiing is after the fall <g>

Because my balance is especially poor on uneven surfaces, getting up and back

on the skis can be a challenge in itself.

I ski, and I have a lot of balance problems; my daughter in law says I ski

better than I walk, and I tell her it is be cause I have two poles;

Obviously I am no great skiier, and I do fall a lot, but then I always did!

I really don't notice much difference in my falling; could it be that you

are tense/afraid of falling? My problem is getting back up! Marie
