It's been about 4 or 5 days... he's not been doing well lately even with taking all his stuff... this has happened before but usually around day 3 or 4 he screams and it comes out... i'm getting a bit concerned...Diane,thanks for the suggestion...having him do it is definitely better--- did the suppository work even if there was a large bowel movement in there? I think he  might be willing to put one in but I'm wondering if it will just go into the poop and not do it's job...

Hi!  How many days has this been going on?  You may want to consider medical intervention, at this point ....

So, we have a problem... my son has a huge poop he can't get out.. nothing new of course except that this time it's just not coming... I really could use some suggestions.. he's been sitting on the toilet for days and we've thrown out a few pairs of underwear from the constant leaking --he's wearing a pull-up now---(he's almost 9 and is embarrassed--of course) he has a close friend that we're picking up this weekend to stay for the week and we would like to get this done so there's no issues! He is absolutely terrified of enemas.. to the point that he has nightmares... so that is out of the question... not sure what to do next...I had given him a few extra doses of natural calm and i have mag citrate but I feel like that's not going to help because he's so blocked...any suggestions would be much appreciated!

Thanks,

Yes! What drove us was my daughter had not gone in 10 days! She was crying and trying to pass it- but it was too big and too dry- the glycerin provides lubrication and I guess that was enough to let her pass it.. after that we became very stringent about adding in more high magnesium foods, and blackstrap molasses, fiber and tons more fluids- she would ask for the glycerin after she would try for a day and she knew it was stuck because it had been sitting too long.Obviously if it backed up higher in the bowel the glycerin won't help as much- but if he knows it is right there and he keeps getting the urge, the glycerin could be exactly what would

help-Cheap and at walgreens, CVS etc..Hope it helps!Diane http://mitochondrialdepletionsyndrome.blogspot.com/ To:

, sounds like he is really backed up? Have you seen a doctor? He

probably needs a laxative to get things moving and some kind of maintenance

regimen to clear his system as this has probably been building up for a while.

Perhaps some Lactulose to start with, and then something stronger to clear his

system. A suppository will only clear things from the rectum. Sounds like he

has more stuff in there. I would suggest taking him to a doctor as constant

leaking is a cause for concern.

Oh yes, we see his GI dr. every few months... I'm actually calling him on Monday... he will be ok for a few months then back downhill... we have a regimen of Natural Calm and a few other things... this has been his life since he was an infant... so frustrating...

Diane, I do have some but he is NOT interested  He had a major meltdown at the mention of it... i'll keep suggesting it though and maybe he'll give in! Thanks so much for the suggestion!

I'm sorry to hear that....it sounds like my life in some ways. I have a thirteen year old who has been on Miralax for 3 1/2 years along with Natural Calm and some other things. Haven't been able to get him off the Miralax without the constipation and other problems setting in.I hope your son (and you) get some relief soon. I'm assuming he is off dairy, drinking lots of water and fibre rich foods.

Kirkman chewable probiotics worked well for us, they contain xylitol which works as a laxative, introducing the good bacteria to balance the gut floraTo: "miralax " <miralax >Sent: Fri, July 13, 2012 4:26:44 PMSubject: Re: help!

So, can he handle inserting a glycerin suppository on his own? When we have had that "stuck" issue- the glycerin suppositories provided instant relief. I think my eldest was 7 or 8 when she could handle inserting on her own...I believe embarrassment and desperation made her a quick learner.. Have you tried PlumSmart juice? Mix in some xylitol or Nature Calm?

He takes natural calm daily, probiotics though not daily- and he drinks plum smart daily---we do use ex-lax for overnight occasionally if needed---it just seems that this time it's too big to get out---I had that issue once after having my daughter and the only thing that worked was an oil enema--however, he is terrified...has nightmares about them etc.. we are leaving in a few hrs. to drive through the night for a short trip...would olive oil soften the stool that's right there  ready to come out?---would it work over night?... i know he's pretty backed up... If we can't fix it this weekend I'm definitely calling the Dr. on monday... thanks so much everyone for your help...it's so nice to have somewhere to go where people actually know what you're going through!!

The only other thing I can think of is a warm epsom salt bath- he might relax which would help, and epsom salts are magnesium which would absorb a bit through his skin.. but it sounds like he is way past that.. poor guy,and poor you..Hope he gets relief soon, if not, I would be like you and calling the dr. After years of reading about PlumSmart juice here, I finally started giving it to my daughter and VOILA!! - not only is she regular, but the consistency is much, much softer - so much so that we give it to her every other day now to avoid the mess :) To: miralax Sent: Friday, July 13, 2012 8:24 PM Subject: Re: help!
