Guest guest
I just had a thought. New Times (the publisher of LAWeekly) has a large presence in many cities like Los Angeles where rent control provides tenants with protections like " just cause " eviction laws. These laws theoretically are supposed to act in preventing unfettered rapid gentrification and real estate development. DEVEOPERS are the new tycoons. They make TRILLIONS of dollars off of gentrification, and they are THE core constituency of the New Times advertiser and political base. (In the fight against this, of course, in the current political environment, tenants are failing.. because tenants are powerless to stop things like mold warfare) Rising fuel costs have made inner city living much more desirable. New Time's allies, large real estate developers, have been buying up large urban apartment complexes all around the country with the aim of demolishing them or stripping them of rent controlled tenants, or turning them into condos, (utterly destroying affordable housing and communities that include middle class and low income people in the process and making many people on fixed incomes and working people who don't make enough, basically six figure incomes, homeless.) My wife and I lived in a community like that, and we were theoretically protected by a law, however, our landlord turned toxic mold into a weapon and a one or two week repair into a year IN ORDER TO EVICT US. Imagine this happening on a MASSIVE scale and you have a huge displacement of people, in essence a land rush that will transform cities from diverse communities that include working people, into yuppie and trustafarian monocultures, with mold being used as a biological weapon of mass destruction. The REAL mold rush.. For landlords wanting to get rid of tenants, truly, " mold is gold " . IT CAN'T BE USED IN SUCH A WAY IF THERE IS MASS AWARENESS OF ITS DESTRUCTIVE EFFECTS.. Trillions of dollars is riding on this issue. The large real estate developers would like to transform cities economically in the same way New Orleans was transformed, without the need for a hurricane to do the dirty work. The rising cost of gas has made city real estate very valuable. In their eyes, too valuable for poor and working people to be able to continue to live there. Trillions of dollars is involved. Often, hundreds of thousands of dollars PER APARTMENT...

Guest guest
I couldn't have said it better myself! Very well stated! Most people have no idea just how big this MOLD WAR is and how devastating it could potentially be for thousands, even, millions of people. But this goes even beyond just mold. " Government " is trying to wipe out all middle class and poor people by any means necessary; through illness (toxic exposures from mold, chemicals, etc.), our food supply with Genectically Modified (GM) foods, hitting financially by taking our homes (legally or illegally), BIG PHARMA, lobbyists and the big corporations that control congress ( and not to mention all the EARMARKS and the tax dollars being wasted on that). I feel like we are at war. And we are Mold Warriors who are fighting for the health and rights to safe environments to live and work. But we are just one piece of the pie. ~Dana PS. I hope I didn't ramble too much and made some kind of sense. I woke up today with severe brain fog and fatigue. I'm a bit out of it but I'm trying to keep up. I can't even describe the feeling I'm having now but I know it's not good. I've got to get out of this house so I can breath some non-toxic air.... sorry, rambling. I'm just trying to make it to the shower.....
