Guest guest
thank you for that info susan. wish i had joined the group before i stopped taking my synthroid. i was only on 12.5 mcgs for a short time which resulted in terrible insomnia, anxiety and forceful heart beating at night. apparently my endo had no clue what was causing it and told me to stop taking it. today i went to the pharmacy and asked the pharmacist what docs in the area prescibe dessicated thyroid, as joan suggested. the pharmacist said they are not allowed to give me that information. she suggested i see a dr. in nyc, coz they're better there. i thanked her and agreed, but there's no way i could go to nyc. so the search is on for a good thyroid doc in or around ocean county, nj. > > So glad to find this group! Guest guest
Sometimes you have to try different meds too - such as Levoxyl or Tirosint, or Cytomel. There are options other than Synthroid. Armour Thyroid used to have a directory of doctors who would prescribe their hormone on their site, but I see they took it down. Check the Top Doctors list on www.thyroid-info.com - often Shomon gives info. about what formulations different doctors are willing to prescribe. But again, yes - could also be you're going to need something to help control the panicky feeling while you get used to the meds. I took Paxil and also Ativan at night. I could not sleep without Ativan. Then I weaned off both of those after several months. > > > > So glad to find this group!
