Guest guest
Jeff May suggests keeping the basement separate from house. I knew that would be difficult but I have done some things to separate it off better. This summer I removed and threw away the carpet on the first floor and walking around yesterday noticed I can SEE right through the wood floor on first floor into the basement(!), so the first floor air pretty much mingles with the basement, no doubt about it. It's obvious when lights are on in basement brighter than first floor. I see the light from the basement through the floor here and there. Down there is a sump pump w about a foot of dirty water. I keep it covered but..? Sealed sump pump I was quoted about $2k which I'm not going to do since this house is draining my pocket to point I'm going to have to stop. I fixed the main problem and the other problems are going to have to be for someone else with a bigger pocketbook and normal health. I don't think this house will ever be clean enough for me to live in . I'm doing so much better in house than before - no comparison- but now that have been sick, my experience tells me I can't take average cleanliness anymore, and the amount of money it would take to change this house into good indoor air q is just much more than I have. It has a million SMALL problems but they all add up when you aren't in good health. Of course July and August are the toughest months. I do just ducky over the winter! It'll be sad to give up on something I've put so much effort into but you don't know unless you try and hopefully I've learned things that will help me out some place else.
