Guest guest
And another miracle I had a phone call from my younger sister this afternoon. She had stopped by the NH to see Teva and found her awake and alert. Not what she was 3 or 4 months ago but not unresponsive like she had been for days. She is still not eating or drinking very much and I think her kidneys are shutting down, but for my younger sister it was a blessing as she lives 5 hours away, and this is probably her last visit with Teva. But she did have a miracle of Teva being alert while she was there. I will be going down to see her tomorrow. Courage I am so excited for you and yours and the visit you had with your mom. Guest guest
Courage ~ Isn't it amazing? I love the moments when Mom surfaces and becomes a part of us. She's so funny and sweet and loving, and so happy that we're there. She and I have had several-hours-long conversations, and those have helped me so much in accepting the other less wonderful parts of this cruel disease. It helps me to remember that this woman who is hiding under her covers, holding her nose and trying to suffocate herself, hallucinating and asking if I am satan, refusing to eat, thinking we're poisoning her...she's still my Mom and down in the depths somewhere, she's got to be wondering what in the hell is going on. She's been in a hospital bed for the past month, but she wants back in her bed, with Dad. We located hospital bed rails that will let down (fitting between the mattress and box springs and anchored to the opposite side of the bed), and she's going to be spending the night in her bed, next to her husband, where she has slept for the past 61 years. I don't know how long it will last, but for now I want her to have every bit of " normalcy " possible. As I do, I know you are counting the moments of lucidity as a blessing. Guest guest
You all are oh so right about the gifts! My 2 adult daughters and I had a wonderful visit with Mom a couple weeks ago. She smiled, talked and showed love for the first time in quite awhile. I was so thrilled and when I got home, I called all my siblings to tell them. After visiting again on Saturday, I'm trying to keep that memory alive. Best wishes to all. Elaine from Michigan
