Guest guest
Mel, Was your child on Miralax? Did you see the drug oversight board meeting the FDA held? The Drug Safety Oversight Board discussed reports of metabolic acidosis, metabolic acidosis with increased anion gap, and neuropsychiatric adverse events in children using polyethylene glycol (PEG) products. Metabolic acidosis is a disturbance in the body's acid-base balance and causes too much acid in the blood. In some situations, metabolic acidosis can be a mild, chronic condition; however, it may lead to shock or death in severe cases. Neuropsychiatric adverse events may include seizures, tremors, tics, headache, anxiety, lethargy, sedation, aggression, rages, obsessive-compulsive behaviors including repetitive chewing and sucking, paranoia and mood swings. http://www.fda.gov/AboutFDA/CentersOffices/OfficeofMedicalProductsandTobacco/CDER/ucm171059.htm Our dd, ONLY developed this after she took this medication????????? How long before you see the behavior go away? Hours? days? Did your child always do this? For us, minerals work like a charm in stopping the chewing and gnawing on everything. Instead of being something she does 100% of the time, it becomes something she does, maybe 3% of the time, . She was chewing on so many things, we had to send chew toys and "chewlry" to be kept at school to occupy her at all times, so she wouldn't chew on school materials or her own clothes. When her DAN! (Defeat Autism Now!) Doctor suggested that the reason for all the chewing was her need for minerals, we started out with Minerals of Life. That worked great in stopping the chewing, too, but it includes iron. The school gave back all her chew toys cause they did not need them anymore. However, when we ran out, we did not replace it just to see what would happen. The chewing came back with a vengeance. Her teacher said to give her back the chew toys cause she was chewing on everything at school. So then, I immediately started her back on the minerals. Citramin II has worked just as well as Minerals of Life. Her teacher said she quickly stopped all the chewing behavior and was not chewing a single thing anymore. A few months ago, we had a urinary tract infection scare, and started on antibiotics just in case, until the urine test results came back and she started the chewing again. She apparently ate a quarter of a board book when she was supposed to be napping. That behavior stopped when we stopped the antibiotics. Now, if you pose the question of chewing on stuff on autism groups, everyone seems to have a different answer. And those Moms are a zillion times smarter than I am. Minerals worked for us, though. She does not seem to have a problem with touching everything, so I don't know on that one. Take care.Mel>> > > Sorry, forgot to ask if she stops touching things also...........> > > ________________________________> > To: miralax > Sent: Mon, August 6, 2012 7:43:31 PM> Subject: Citramin II> > Â > http://www.ourkidsasd.com/products/multi_minerals/614Â > > Is this it?
