Guest guest
Bonnie, You don't really need to kill the ants. You need to follow them and find the nest. Usually, they will be in a damp place (under a leak, for example), near the exterior or just outside the house. If they are carpenter ants (the big black ants) they are easy to follow. They will usually be in two lines (they follow trail pheromones), one brigade heading in, empty mouthed, and another heading out with food in their mouths. Follow the latter and put boric acid in the nest (fast!) before they disperse to a new nesting area (in minutes). A safe alternative to sprays are ant cups or just a mix of sugar and boric acid. I discuss this in My House is Killing Me. The A/C filter is at: http://www.webproducts.com/Detail.bok?no=60.
