The answers have been enormously helpful and I will attempt to clean out the inside of the AC and see whether that will solve the problem. I do think it may have been installed incorrectly (leaning towards the wall) and is not draining properly. I can relate to the cat urine smell-it's something I smell in the basement from time to time and was always convinced it had something to do with the mold problem (I do not have cats). I don;t think a new filter will help me though-I am incredibly sensitive to mold AND to new filters-especially the fancy ones-they are sometimes more toxic to me than the mold itself. I will try to drill extra holes in the bottom to drain it-good idea. Again, thanks everyone. As always, this group is irreplaceable! Happy 4th!!!
