The City of Buffalo has a large stock of abandoned houses. On Walter

Street, neighbors believe a problem property was giving them

headches; literally.

Now after four years of waiting they belive that headache should be

disappearing.

Neighbors here feel the demolition of 115 Walter Street will

eliminate the source of some of their health problems.

Jim Calhoun, Buffalo Resident: " Toxc black mold, Mike. I've got

bronchitis. My wife has a respiratory condition. I sit in the back

yard. You can actually smell it. "

Goff, Buffalo Resident: " The house, I really believe it's the

house. My daughter McKenzie; she's had nothing but breathing

problems, allergies and it's only started since we moved here. "

As the house comes down, neighbors say the black spots you see in

the insulation and other parts of the house is mold.

Bickley and her family lived in the house four years ago.

They discovered mold while remodeling. She says her doctors

recommended they leave.

Bickley, Buffalo Resident: " My two and a half year old was

hospitalized in Children's Hospital for four days. We had to get

out. We had to leave everything. "

Afetr 2 On Your Side contacted Buffalo's Inspections Department

about 115 Walter Street, Acting Commissioner Jim Comerford

personally inspected the building and ordered an immediate

demolition.

Jim Comerford, Acting Buffalo Inspections Commissioner: " Because

there's a potential for mold, I want to get the house down as soon

as possible, get it graded and relieve the neighbors of the

headache. "

Just one day after that interview, the four year old headache was

leveled.

Goff: " We're happy for the safety of our children and our

neighbors. "

Jim Calhoun: " I'm raising the flag when this sucker goes down. Go

get a big one! "
