Guest guest
My understanding of plaster, if cracked, which happens easily, air can move through crack and deposit dust and then moisture = mold at that spot. Advantage of plaster is that it doesn't spread unless there is wood stud there or something it can spread to, but mold doesn't like or use plaster for food, like it does drywall, so plaster is a good idea but you have to repair cracks, something I had to learn. I thought all old plaster homes had cracks and I wasn't concerned but again it takes some time to develope a problem at the site of a crack in plaster, it would be very slow to develop, rate of dust accumulation, etc, as it doesn't like the plaster itself, just patch cracks when they appear. Then paint over it with something suitable for bathroom like an enamel paint that is mold resistent, like Kilz unless the odor is a problem. If so, there are probably low voc variations of that.
