Guest guest
Are you telling me that I should only expect to live to 54? I want to know where your info came from... that is scary. Guest guest
Dear Teri darlin' ... you know I love you ... you are my younger sister ... There is no reason to worry about confusion. All that really matters in the Big Picture is that we take good care of ourselves and the people we love .... that we relax and enjoy our lives ... and that we be kind to each other. I LOVE DIABETICS ... I don't know how to say that otherwise ... I am on a mission to save diabetics' lives. That is where I am coming from. I could spend my days doing other things ... and I have in fact neglected the house, my appearance, and my relationship with Rob in order to help other diabetics. When I sense that someone in the group is making statements that could lead newly-diagnosed diabetics down a path that might not be the wisest for them, I feel compelled to jump in there and make at least as much noise as they are. Thornton has good intentions. He is very well-spoken. He is persuasive. I feel a need to counter his statements with statements of my own and questions. That is all. It is nighttime in the mountains of eastern Arizona ... there is a full moon .... I worked hard all day, and we are about to settle in for the night. I wish all the rest of you a wonderful night ... Group hugs, Susie )

We're all humans ... and we're all diabetics!!) Rob's doctor has him taking monster doses of meds ... and now his liver doesn't look good ... and he has a growth on his arm the doctor thinks is cancer ... It looks like my oldest sister's granddaughter is diabetic. She's still in school. There is no way in the world to deal with things when they all pile up ... All we do is enjoy nature and pet our dogs a lot and tell people we love them. Rob and I have been sitting here for two hours, cleaning our guns ... That probably sounds goofball to people who aren't shooters, but Rob and I are both marksmen ... " markspersons " ... and we get pleasure from this. The " stuff " that you use on guns smells wonderful, and it always makes me feel good to be as good or better than guys at " their stuff, " like driving big rigs and shooting. (By the way, we never kill animals ... we adore them ... we just plink away at homemade targets.) Hugs, Susie

Are you saying you get involved with IRL (in real life ) dm groups, etc or is it just the computer? We all really appreciate the help you give here, well.... I'll shut up now.I can be too blunt at times. carol
Guest guest
Susie, I commend you, and many others on this list, for the time you all spend helping those of us on this list who are struggling. Many in this group go the distance to help each other in working with this so-called 800 lb gorilla. Diabetics are all around us, and I believe somehow we need to reach out. It is so easy to let the negativity overwhelm us, but reaching out to a group of people who understand is comforting. My neighbour 2 doors down is type 1. I've never met him and he keeps to himself. I know he struggles with alcholism and has resolved never to have a family. My neighbour across the street is also type 1. He also keeps to himself, but have talked to his wife a bit about it. That makes 3 diabetics (all type 1) who live within 100 feet of each other. It was just yesterday that my 10-year-old daughter's new friend told me that her mother is diabetic (I guess she felt compelled to tell me because she knew that I was diabetic). She told me that she has had diabetes for about 3 years and cannot feel her feet and eats a lot of things she is not supposed to. I didn't pursue it... it was only the first time that I met the child. I think we could all benefit by talking to each other, but we seem to feel that we must stay to ourselves and struggle with this on our own. Perhaps it's a cultural thing ... I was always taught that you deal with your problems at home. And maybe it's time to change that. Even those who struggle with alcoholism are encouraged to reach out to others for help and to help each other. The internet is one place where we can feel less isolated in dealing with this disease and its complications. Hopefully I will meet her one day and we can exchange war stories, and help each other. And in the meantime, by reaching out to others via the internet, either to help or to reach out to help, is time well spent.
