Guest guest
FEMA Experts Give Home Repair Advice July 6, 2008 7:15 PM EDT WBAY - Green Bay,WI* http://www.wbay.com/Global/story.asp?S=8625744 The deadline to apply for federal flood aid is still more than a month away, but officials have already handed out more than $28 million in aid statewide. And when flood victims are putting the money to use, FEMA is there to help them again. Right when you walk into Lowe's in Oshkosh, you're greeted by federal employees in blue. " We came in here they just asked if we had any flood damage, " says Richart. " And I said, yea, our lot was six feet under water. " This group here is just one of six set up throughout the state in places you go to rebuild, like Lowe's or Menards giving out pamphlets answering any clean up or repair questions. " Basically, just how to clean up the basement and to get rid of the mold, " said Robin Drexler, another flood victim. " About the mold and the mildew damage, the back flow valves that can be attached to their sewer lines, " says FEMA representative Willie on. Besides showing people how to clean up mold from their home or make repairs, FEMA workers are telling people how to better prepare for future floods. A couple of tips: buying a back flow valve to keep sewage water from creeping in and elevating basement items. " This time getting the front load washer and dryer so they're up higher the fifteen inches, and I'm gonna see what they can do for my furnace this time. " Meanwhile, FEMA is still showing people how they can apply for assistance and even though some say their flood damage isn't too bad, these workers are telling them to contact FEMA anyways. Mitigation experts will be at Lowe's in Oshkosh through Monday.
