Guest guest
I like the idea of washer in garage. I think it would be good to build homes with water facilities in separate part of building, unconnected to air in rest of house. That way if accident, then whole house is not ruined...and you have some place to sleep and live, and you don't spend all day long in sick building if leak goes undetected for long period. Kitchen, bath, shower, laundry in part 1 of house and living room, family room, bedrooms in part 2 of house, connected by short path. Can you imagine how much better that is. If water damage from water pipe or leak, you can have some place to sleep and live without worrying about every breath you took. You'd just have to go out to eat and take a shower..or you could go into house long enough to take a shower and that would be it for day until water damage could be repaired. Or other way around, living area of house has water damage in foundation or roof, but kitchen, laundry area etc are okay, so you live over on that side of house. I don't think it would have to be large house for that, just designed differently. If I were going to build a house now I would do that. Also build a house without gutters like Bush's ranch house. It just has very large overhangs that let water run off wherever and into a moat around house to drain off. The moat is filled with rocks so you can walk over but it is a water collection area that collects water that runs off from land and house and carries it off underground. Neat plan. Ranch also is heated and cooled by geothermal system so he doesn't have to worry too much about the price of heating gas or oil. I would build the house totally around water and moisture protection and alternative energy sources if I had the MONEY. If, if, if!! Oh well, I have to remember to be thankful to have a home. At one time this was a worry. Here is a link to NBC's broadcast of visit to Bush's Crawford Ranch describing the way ranch was built without gutters and other green building features. Really neat building practices: http://tinyurl.com/3opabp > > the wash! I have friends that have their washer and dryer in the garage!
