Guest guest
Carl spoke to me for quite a while on the phone about my mold situation in my apartment, of his own free time, and referred me to a professional, Steve Temes, in New Jersey with whom I also had a long discussion. By the way, Carl, because I'm in a rent-stabilized building and your colleague knows Manhattan insanity firsthand (you practically have to sue your landlord to get remediation; and/or if you CAN prove mold and get the buildings/health department to cite a Class B violation and get remediation, you still may not be comfortable they are doing it correctly and isolating areas correctly as many people don't understand mold sensitivity), he suggested sealing off the area. You first have to discover airflow, so he recommended a gizmo that has smoke emanating from it (actually a child's toy--now I'm forgetting the name but if you know the name perhaps post it on here as it sounded ingenious and he said many professionals are now using it). Then you caulk over any areas air could be flowing through, and seal the wall if you have to. If its an isolated area like that with a wall with cavities and old leaks, you may be safer that way for the time being, was his belief. Again, that's given Manhattan insanity and what you might have to go through to get major remediation. I wonder if you have any thoughts. Anyway these professionals are very generous with their time. > > How nice that was...and I have to agree, Mr May is a class above most > in his field.
