They go on to say that as little as 4 teaspoons of vinegar in

a

vinaigrette dressing (4 teaspoons vinegar and 2 teaspoons oil) taken

with

an average meal lowered blood sugar by as much as 30 percent. If so,

this

is a very remarkable effect.

Hey I think I'll try that. What can it hurt? After all, I've tried just

about everything else. I might as well try the chewing gum also. I have

nothing to lose but BGs and weight. Right?

Love,

Tootie

see where it could cause any harm.

Quotes from another list

I thought everyone would be interested in reading the following that I

am copying from another list:

< Lowering blood sugar and slowing digestion

by adding acidic foods to the diet

An interesting and practical piece of information found in the book " The

Glucose Revolution " ** is a claim that you can slow down gastric emptying

(and hence the rate of digestion) by adding acid foods to your diet. For

example, the book suggests vinegar, lemon juice, acidic fruits, and

sourdough bread. The book states (pg. 43) that

" [w]ithin the last few years, several reports in the scientific

literature have indicated that a realistic amount of vinegar or

lemon

juice in the form of a salad dressing consumed with a mixed meal

has

significant blood sugar lowering effects. "

Unfortunately, the authors have, provided no references for this

statement.

Chewing calorie free gum as a way to increase

energy expenditure to reduce body fat

A letter in the 30 December 1999 The New England Journal of Medicine

suggests an unusual way to speed up fat loss: chewing gum.

The authors summed up by saying that, if a person chewed gum during

waking

hours and changed no other components of energy balance, a yearly loss

of

more than 5 kg. of body fat might be anticipated.

Another reason to get rid of excess body fat

reduction of aging and of Tissue Necrosis Factor

Tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-alpha) is also released by fat cells.

TNF-alpha is a cytokine released in increased amounts in inflammatory

and

infectious conditions, including cancer. Formerly called cachectin,

TNF-alpha is associated with the muscle wasting caused by such

conditions

and also found in aging. The basal levels of TNF-alpha are derived from

adipocytes (fat cells) and its plasma levels are correlated with fat

mass

in animals and humans. New studies have found TNF-alpha to have direct

effects upon the development of insulin resistance.

And here is one of the answers from another member of the list that I

particularly enjoyed:

<Soooo then it looks like we need a Vinegar flavored chewing gum to

maximize

weight loss.

And if I put one foot in a bucket of ice water and the other foot in a

bucket of boiling water, on the average, I'm comfortable.>
