Guest guest
This was a reply to request for info b/c have not been able to have satisfactory dx for rashes since circa 1996... It is a 2nd response, I had explained we do not have specialists and could not get to see own dr when need to when active despite many attempts - rashes just don’t equate to urgent. I felt pretty p-off at the patronising tone – oh, and oh dear how much I cost the system to have meds!!!! (and made that clear in my reply). And yes, btw, have used Echinacea, Olive Leaf and many many more..... More grrrr - am really fed up. joy ------ Forwarded Message Organization: HVA Reply-To: Date: Fri, 14 Mar 2008 15:23:13 -0000 To: 'joy hensby' Subject: RE: Zoster? Dear Joy, Sorry, we cannot diagnose what is wrong with a person. We are here to offer advice and information to people who have got a herpes virus. I have made answers to you three points below on your email - see further down. If the GP seeing you cannot diagnose, then you will need to see a specialist. However, it is up to the patient to get to the GP when there are symptoms. No one else can organise you into the surgery at the right time! If your GP's surgery is aware that you have this problem, I am sure he /she will get you a swift appointment - talk to him/her to see if this can be arranged. Or find out if there is a 'Walk in Clinic' in your nearest big hospital - there are in many areas. Famvir at £4,500 a year is not a drug that can be taken daily (or even 'under suspicion of an outbreak'). However generic antivirals at £200 ish per year are. Why not talk to your GP about taking the antiviral pills daily for a few months to see if the symptoms stop? I am attached a Word document which gives you all sorts of suggestions on how to improve your immune system's functioning. I hope something in these suggestions is useful. Re: Zoster? Dear n, Thank you for your time in answering my questions, it has certainly given me a better understanding. Since 1995: irritation occurs similar areas of face/neck - itchy lump/small blister recurring always same places. I don’t think I mentioned a string of blisters across L cheek from nostril to cheek-bone in ~2000 and again 2005. One doctor thought it shingles, another said no b/c it crossed the midline ( there was another blister (H simplex?) on the inside of R nostril, which he took to be same as on the left (I think they were not the same?). A tiny lump has remained where worst blister was and at times reddens, sometimes forms a blister. H simplex has occurred w/ prolonged exacerbations. Swabs inconclusive re shingles, usu b/c too late by the time I get to a GP. I do have several more questions now, which I’d be grateful if you could help with also: Re treatment, this occasion, GP said it was too late to use antiviral, as the rash/itch had started some 4-5 days prior to the intense pain and my seeing him. HE IS RIGHT. Can shingles surface in more than one point, and recur? (some sites recurrent). NOT USUALLY, BUT NOT IMPOSSIBLE. With so many rashes (some rash/sores dx as Candida, and Staph; dx 2007) how do I know in time to take an antiviral? I have Famiclovir on hand, which I could have started if I’d known. SHINGLES AND COLD SORES HAVE AN ITCHY TINGLE BEFORE THE OUTBREAK. Again, many thanks for your help, it is much appreciated, and will be helpful for next time I see my GP.
