Mold Growing Raises Health Concerns For Residents

EL PASO, Texas -- Residents who live at The Sunrise apartment

complex on Resler Road said conditions are anything but " sunny. "

KFOX investigated and found out they're downright dangerous. " This

is actually from an air vent inside the house, and it's still

alive, " said resident Mc.

Mc said black mold has been growing inside his west El Paso

apartment. He knows it's black mold because he recently took a

sample to get tested at Providence Hospital, but that's only the

beginning of his problems.

" We have our ceiling, which fell in, we have a black mold situation,

we have unsafe railing and I have four children, " said Mc.

The Mc children have gotten sick after only living in their

apartment for about a month, resulting in thousands of dollars worth

of medical bills that Mc and his wife can hardly afford. The

family said they have no choice but to stay.

" There's no way out of the contract for us because we just signed

it, " said Mc.

KFOX tried to get answers from the leasing office, but were met by a

locked door, and residents said every time they complain no one is

available.

" I would like them to either relocate my family and I to somewhere

new, or help us find a new place and get into a new place. If they

can't do that we're stuck here. We have no choice, " said Mc.

KFOX called city building inspectors Friday and told them about the

concerns of residents here.

The building inspectors said they're sending an inspector out to the

apartments on Monday.
