Farragut Post Office closed due to mold-related issues

The Farragut Post Office was closed Friday afternoon after toxic

mold was confirmed throughout the building.

Residents of Farragut that usually retrieve their mail at the post

office are now suppose to go to the Shenandoah Post Office for pick

up.

" Someone from Omaha came down to look at it on Thursday, " said

Caroline Mount, Farragut Post Master Replacement. " They found mold

every place they looked. "

There is no time frame for the post office to reopen. Mount said it

would remain closed until the mold is removed. Until then, Mount and

Farragut Post Office Officer in Charge, s, will work out

of the Shenandoah Post Office.

" You could smell it. It smelled like a root cellar in there.

Customers started complaining and it wasn't a healthy place to

work, " added Mount. " It was getting to us. was going home with

headaches and I was going home feeling groggy and out of it.

Mount said residents are allowed to pick up anyone else's mail as

long as they have permission and bring a note.

" It's business as usual only at a different spot, " said Mount.

Mount said they noticed the mold about a year ago.

" It was faint at first, but after all this rain it has gotten worse.

It was even up under the drop ceiling. We took down a bulletin board

and there was mold on the wall behind it. "

It is possible a different location in downtown Farragut could be

used temporarily until the post office is sanitized.

Hours at the Shenandoah Post Office are 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. Monday

through Friday and 8 until 11:30 a.m. on Saturday.

" It's a pain, " said Farragut resident Jerry . " People pay to

get it to 51639. I shouldn't have to come get it. If our post office

is closed, they should have to hire someone to bring it to the house

or somewhere else in town. "
