The discovery of mold in its health and environmental laboratories

building at Forbes Field has prompted the Kansas Department of

Health and Environment to temporarily suspend operations there.

The roughly 70 staff members who work at the facility will be

given paid administrative leave and allowed to stay home all next

week, KDHE spokeswoman Maggie said today.

KDHE Secretary Rod Bremby said the agency would contact those staff

members once it had more information.

said a team from the State Department of Labor and an

independent specialist from out of state would perform a thorough

assessment of the building, where preliminary samples that have been

taken were found to be positive for mold.

Meanwhile, said, KDHE will use other resources to assure

its laboratory services continue uninterrupted.
