Guest guest
Coleen, The speech therapist on our feeding team just introduced us to the Beckman oral motor exercises. It's a series of simple stimulation exercises for oral motor development. We are doing them to help get Bryce ready for eating and speech. After we started, I realized that several OT's and speech therapists were soewhat familiar with them. Ask around to get some info. I could send you the instructions but I really felt it was necessary to have someone shoe you how to do them. Bryce had a bi-lateral cleft lip and palate and doesn't eat anything and doesn't talk. So he had three whammies to the mouth department. Amazingly, he really uses his mouth fairly well considering all that. He just hates tasting anything. Let me know if you want me to send those papers. Deedee
Guest guest
Deedee I apologize for butting in, BUT, here I go My son also has a bilateral cleft/lip and palate, quit talking and has great trouble articulating now, and is a very picky eater. he eats well and is good at it, just not much variety. I would love to learn more about the oral motor exercises if you wouldn't mind. His OT said he has no muscle tone in the repaired area- maybe that would help? thanks!!
