Guest guest
I checked this and here's what it said. You might want to check it further, though. Lidocaine Novacaine was a common local anesthetic used in dentistry. Some patients had allergic reactions to Novocaine, so it is now replaced by Lidocaine. Lidocaine, which is also a local anesthetic, works in essentially the same way as Novocaine. Lidocaine is also used topically as a local anesthetic to produce numbness or loss of feeling before surgery or other painful procedures. The difference is that Lidocaine works without causing allergic reactions and other side effects. However, the chemical structure of Lidocaine is different from Novocaine. Guest guest
My son, a dentist, did a lot of work on his grandmother. Her mental capabilities made some things very difficult. the last month of her life she did not even use her dentures. Make sure the dentist understands the mental aspects of your patient. An appointment can be very trying if the patient will not follow directions. Watch for dentist stress as well. Our treatment was free, but our dentist paid an extreme emotional price every time he worked on Millie. Guest guest
Thanks for the info. Mom, luckily has it together mentally pretty much still, so I don't worry about that so much as if there was anything to be aware of in terms of LBD patients and reactions to the type of medications used in dental offices. Sorry to hear about Millie. Your efforts with her, as with many caregivers on this message board, were valiant. Hope you are doing ok, many thoughts going out to you. > > > > Mom needing a lot of dental work but novocaine will be the extent of > > the office medication - any contraindications to novocaine for LBD > people? > > >
Guest guest
Dear Elsie, Carol provides a wise recommendation. Additionally, be sure your dentist has a list of your LOs meds in advance, should a different anesthesia be indicated. My mom is on Seroquel, and the dentist wanted to talk with a pharmacologist before her appointment, because he was concerned about interactions. Good luck!
