Guest guest
You do not have to run bleach or anti freeze in your front loader, but you must wipe out the gasket after you are through using the machine for the day and leave the door open. I found that even running bleach in the machine will not get rid of the mold in the gasket. It has to be cleaned out manually and then kept dry when the washer is not in use. The mold was so bad in my washer that the gases were noticeable in my entire basement and made me and my daughter ill. I kept the door open thinking that would allow the gasket to dry out, but it never did. It wasn't until I cleaned it that all odors went away. If you do need to wash out the machine, you could use hydrogen peroxide bleach (Ecover & Seventh Generation make it) or borax. Be careful with the hydrogen peroxide because it can burn your skin. I haven't had a problem with mold since. Hope this helps.
Guest guest
thanks this makes me think i should stick with my top loader that still works fine and is wonderfully fragrance free, in fact, ive done homeless mcs ers laundry for many years. I was just worried that mycotoxins from my job and trying to rid my clothing that i did keep from being a trigger may have left redisual spores of some sort. Dr Croft says you should be well when you are out of harms way, im not, im not sure i beleive him then. Once MCS sets in, its a huge hurdle to ride. angie mnpearl@... wrote: > > You do not have to run bleach or anti freeze in your front loader, but > you > must wipe out the gasket after you are through using the machine for > the day > and leave the door open. Guest guest
If visible mold has formed in rubber gasket, as seen by visible circular patterns in the rubber, you need to have the rubber gasket replace. Maytag replaced the rubber gasket around door that had become moldy. It was part of the lawsuit conclusion. Some people got their money back if machine was newer. After rubber gasket was replaced and I leave door open, I have not had any trouble. I love my front loader, since no matter how far behind in wash I get, I can get it all done quickly, it holds so much laundry and does large pieces. However service man said they called front loaders, stink machines. Since I started to leave door open, just cracked open, I have had no trouble except for after doing some rugs that cloggest the drain for awhile. Wiping the rubber gasket out doesn't hurt. You'll find some water held in there, but I don't do that, and it doesn't stink between loads. > > You do not have to run bleach or anti freeze in your front loader, but you > must wipe out the gasket after you are through using the machine for the day > and leave the door open. Guest guest
p.s. I have one of the first Maytags that came out as front loaders and I believe they and other manufacturers have made some improvements since then for better draining, but I think you still need to let door open so they can completely dry out between loads. > > If visible mold has formed in rubber gasket, as seen by visible > circular patterns
