Thanks so much about the carrots, Lin, I love them too.

Us? Well, I am feeling a bit better since the carpet is out of the house,

and the bedspread, and drapes are out of my bedroom. I didn't realize I felt

better, until I realized I was back to running my own house, almost. It's been

a long time since I felt well enough to drag myself to do anything.

Don needs me for everything, and I need to be up to it, so I'm glad it is

happening.

My daughter bought two heavy runners to put beside Don's bed on both sides,

in case he falls out again. He is still sore in the ribs from the fall, but

they are not broken. I put that bed down much lower the next day.

I have a new Photosmart printer. It's hooked up, but I haven't tried it yet.

One of these days. I have so much to do after having to move out that I am

too busy for the printer. I have to use it soon to update our medical records.

So that is all that is really going on around here.

I do want to tell you that I keenly appreciate your letters to the List.

They are so insightful, and helpful. You know your business, and I'm so glad

you

are sharing your knowledge with us. Thank you very much.

Love a mess ---- of greens,

Jim has another UTI, I picked up on it last Thursday. He didn't have the usual

behaviors yet like the punching and aggressiveness that I usually can tell he

has a UTI, but his diaper was a very brownish color like a dried blood color

when he urinated and when I went into the bathroom to toilet him, I saw it and I

was very upset that they let his diaper once again get so wet and that I knew he

held onto it as long as he could before letting it go. It turned out he has a

new CNA and they, at the nh, never communicated to the new CNA, that she must

get Jim on a toilet. She was suprised that he had weight bearing when she saw me

in the bathroom with him. Arghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! Back to square one.

I requested a urine test on Thursday and the results just came back today. What

the heck takes them so long at the lab the nh goes through? If I take Jim

straight to ER, we know right that night. I should have taken him to ER, but it

always turns out to be an 8 hour day, so I decided to request at the nh for a

test to be given. I know the weekend was also a factor in it for taking so long.

Still I can take him to ER on a weekend and have the results within the day. Of

course now, Jim is punching and aggressive, so the medication came just on time.

Jim was put on a new antibiotic that he has never had. He has been given Cipro

and Septra before, but this time he was given Keflex Aka Cephalexin 3Xs a day

for 10 days.

Plus Lactinex to help protect him from C-diff after being on antibiotics so many

times they said.

Has anyone's LO taken Keflex or Lactinex and how was it for

them?.............Jan

Hi Donna,

Jim's regular morning CNA went on vacation for a month, so they gave him a new

CNA. You would think knowing my requests to toilet Jim, they would pass the word

onto the next person caring for him. Obviously, they don't communicate the needs

of each person to the next CNA in charge of care.

Jan, a long time ago, I think I had Keflex for

something, might have been a UTI; if I recall it's a

big orange pill? Because I have a very sensitive

stomach, I couldn't take it if that's what it was. If

I recall, it's a very potent med. Has Jim ever had

Levaquin. That's what they often gave Darrell as well

as Cipro and Macrodantin for maintenance ABiotic.

Dear Jan and Others,

So very sorry, Jan, to hear Jim is facing another infection. My mom has UTIs

nearly constantly. Various anti-Bs prescribed, depending on what bacteria it is.

Not all anti-Bs work against all infections. Also important is that some people

cannot handle certain anti-Bs, sometimes due to physical problems and sometimes

brain problems. As we always say, presecribing meds is tricky in LBD, and just

because the lab says the bacteria is sensitive to a certain anti-B, you and the

MD will want to be sure it's safe for the LO.

For example, Macrodantin is useless in people with low creatinine clearance.

In some with LBD, the quinalone anti-B family (which includes Levaquin) is

avoided because it makes agitation, confusion and hallucinations worse. In

LBDers with Parkinson's or parkinsonisms, anti-Bs in general can make those

symptoms worse. And, some MDs prefer to divide dosages over the course of a day,

rather than giving the daily dose all at once, because there is often such

sensitivity. Many anti-Bs can interact with other meds, so MDs are cautious

about dosing times. And in the case of folks who get recurrent or relapsing

infections, a longer treatment time than usual is often considered.

I don't know if any past postings on infections and anti-Bs have been saved in

our files. If so, there's been helpful info shared here on this topic.

Best wishes for a complete clearance of this infection. They sure do knock our

LOs out.
