FARMINGTON - Creeping mold and mildew has slowly invaded the

basement offices of the 1885 lin County Courthouse for the

second time in three years.

The poor air quality and dank smell has now forced Assistant

District Attorney s out of his private office and into a

vacant desk in an outer room he now shares with his administrative

assistant.

lin County District Attorney Norman Croteau, in a letter to the

county commissioners requesting immediate action, called the problem

intolerable.

On Tuesday, commissioners directed custodian Hinkley to tear

down the offending wall and trace the problem to see if it can be

readily fixed. Hinkley said he suspected groundwater was seeping in

or there may be a leaking water pipe inside the wall of the

bathroom, which backs on to s' office.
