Guest guest
for me a 'green drink' means fruits and veggies etc etc dehydrated into a highly nutritious powder form. I feel best with about two servings a day, but like I said, I am not terribly disciplined about this supplement - Vliet says that E is a super anti-oxidant - which makes sense to me...especially makes sense to me to add E and T when your ovaries are depleted, or gone! so the ovarian hormones are extremely important to me for well -being and long term health. and I hestitate to try anything that is pushed under a current advertising 'trend'. I like to go by 'word of mouth' recommendations..... A few years ago, i was drinking Body Balance (LifeForce International--distributor MLM type of brand). Don't know if it qualifies as a "green" drink, but it is made primarily of sea vegetables, aloe vera, etc. My husband and I felt ok on it. we got sick less. However, i did head into endocrine disastor (low E, low cortisol, low T) dispite being on this plus my normal antioxidant vitamins (C+bioflavinoids). The Ph thing interests me and hope i can buy some strips from Walgreens or somewhere when i do my errands today to satisfy my curiosity about my own Ph. But what I'm curious about is what the suggested serving is per day. For body balance, it was 1-2 oz/day. What are your recommended doses for this specific one below, and Nora, what about yours? Are you drinking 8-10 ozs or just a swig (1-2 oz)... my husband and I bought little measured "shot" glasses for the Body Balance back when I was drinking it with him. Guest guest
Hi , For me the green drinks were about ‘alkalising’ and I think Christa’s definition is good. If you look at this link, which is from my website in the UK where I do most of my health ordering, they’ve done a matrix of the different ingredients in the ‘green drinks’ and the related costs per serving. These are all high quality brands and I use 2 of them right now. From most of my reading, it’s really the grasses that are sought after in the alkalising part. http://www.energiseforlife.com/green_drink_matrix.php I take one teaspoon in a large glass of water. And Kathy, this same site has supplements for alkalising. So maybe these would work for you if the green drinks didn’t? http://www.energiseforlife.com/cat--Green-Capsules--GREEN_CAPS.html Nora Reply-To: <rhythmicliving > Date: Fri, 15 Feb 2008 17:44:52 -0000 To: <rhythmicliving > Subject: Re: Whole Super food -Green drinks, water alkalizers Hi Christa & Nora, I find your emails fascinating. Guest guest
Hi Barbara and , I also use AlkaLife drops in my filtered water. I think the quality of water we drink is really important. I am 100% with you. I only eat whole foods, nothing processed, with no additives, organic wherever possible, etc. And have been doing so for years. I read ingredients on labels religiously. But I do eat out quite a bit, so I try to choose options that are high quality and the least processed even in restaurants. The green drinks are in addition to my whole foods diet. And is really a way for me to aid my body further in keeping it’s acid/alkaline balance easily. Stress causes acid, working out causes acid, so even with a great diet, this is just another aid. It has certainly helped me in this last 4 months, maybe more than anything else I have done. And it’s interesting, I already felt good (with my diet and workouts), so this was just to optimise my energy levels as I started a new phase of my life. And it certainly went beyond my expectations. – sugar is highly acidic, so your body is neutralising that in some way. And working out is creating acid (for good reasons!) too. Everyone needs alkalising, in the sense that our bodies have to maintain that approximate 7.36 balance to live. So the question becomes with our lifestyles today, how hard are we making it for our bodies to do that? Unless you get one that has an ingredient which conflicts with your body or something else you are doing, you can really only know until you try and feel if it benefits you. Guest guest
Although it is true that the pH balance is very delicate and must be in the 7.36 not everyone tends too acid, some people are too alkaline. And the pH paper doesn’t tell you what is going on. You could be very good at eliminating acid that you don’t need, or too alkaline and eliminating too much acid. Blood pH works, but hard to do. I know this because my brother was treated using alternative methods for NH lymphoma and was in a constant struggle to get more acid not more alkaline. Going more alkaline helped his NHL improve. Eating alkalizing foods made him feel unwell, and they do that to me as well. Some people need to get more acid not alkaline, depends on their genetic metabolism. Guest guest
Hi Karima, While that is absolutely true, you and your brother would be big exceptions to vast majority of people living in the west. The lifestyles (fast paced and stressful), work outs and western diets are all very, very acidic. I always assumed that I had almost the perfect diet and that I couldn’t get much better. No red meat, no processed foods, no sugar (occasional exceptions), no wheat, etc. I eat whole foods, fish and vegetables. The only thing in my diet that I could really see that was seriously acidic was coffee. And red wine, which is slightly acidic. I didn’t even do the PH test. I quit coffee and starting thinking about alkalising by adding the green drinks. After a month, the difference was amazing. My energy levels were consistently higher and my recovery time after playing tennis and after workouts was much quicker. I learned something new, which made a big change in my life and why I am open to everyone’s experiences with other things. I think like everything we talk about on the board, you have to try it on your body and see if it works. You and your brother are very lucky that your bodies can so easily keep alkaline, because there is no question that it is tied to long life and much less problems with disease!
