Guest guest
Let me start by saying that I'm sick due to mold exposure from my place of employment... and I don't think that I've cross contaminated my apartment. Due to finanical and health concerns I will need to move in with family. They have offered to purchase a metal storage building/shed, that will be placed on their property, to hold my belongings until I'm on my feet again. Of course I'm very thankful to have this option but I am also concern about moisture (leaks and humidty) since I live in Pennsylvania where we are blessed with all four seasons. We plan to try to reduce moisture problems by doing the following but I need some feedback to make sure that we're on the right track. a) The unit will be supported above the ground on cinder boxes. The floor will be mainly constructed of plywood, which I think we should seal the bottom surface (the side facing the ground) with something but I'm not sure what. c) We will be covering all of the screw heads on the roof with duct tape and covering the roof with a tarp too. (I was thinking of adding some expansion foam insulation where the roof meets the walls but I'm concerned that that might hold in moisture) d) I will be placing a few containers of Damp Rid in the unit to hopefully collect excess moisture. Then I have some questions on how to store my items in the unit. e) Should I use plastic or cardboard boxes? I was thinking that plastic is stronger but do I need to worry about condensation since the unit will not be climate controlled? f) Should I place tarps over my upholstered items inside the unit in case there is a leak or will the tarps just hold moisture in? If anyone can share any suggestions or experiences I would really appreciate it. Thanks, Bonnie
