Guest guest
Dear Kathy, Antibiotics are pretty strong meds for people with LBD, but obviously necessary. My mom takes lots for near-chronic UTIs. Here's the scoop on Zosyn: It's a combination of 2 anti-Bs: piperacillin and tazobactam. IV only, unfortunately not available in oral form. (I'd be uncooperative with needles stuck in me, too!). Treats various kinds of bacterial infections, including: skin, blood, nervous system, respiratory tract, urinary tract, sinus. Part of the penicillin family, so not given if person is allergic to penicillin, any of the cephalosporin family of anti-Bs, or the anti-B imipenem. Prescribed with caution to those with history of: asthma, bleeding problems, kidney disease, liver disease, low potassium levels, colitis, eczema May cause false-positive sugar level readings in diabetics. May interact with: other anti-Bs, probenecid and methotrexate Side effects come in two groups: Report immediately: Breathing problems, fever/chills, rash, severe or watery diarrhea, swelling, unusual tiredness, Report: anxiety, agitation, constipation, sleep problems, abdominal pain, dizziness, headache, nausea I personally report EVERY side effect, as LBDers are so sensitive and liable to further problems. What kind of infection does have? Will be thinking of you both. Lin p108nky wrote: Has anyone had experience with the antibiotic Zosyn? they are giving it to my husband while he's in the hospital? He often hallucinates when on certain antibiotics, but I'm not familiar with this one? Guest guest
> What kind of infection does have? The doctors are giving this prophlactively because of the surgery for PEG tube and he had had a foley catheter, the PEG tube is in place, and the catheter is gone now. As you suggest, I will report all side effects.
Guest guest
Hi again Kathy, That makes sense. And most likely you won't see side effects, and any obvious ones should be quickly caught as R is in hospital. Hope you are able to get some rest tonight.
