Guest guest
Hi Bob, Interesting article, thanks! There have been several notable figures who were " diagnosed " posthumously, including Glenn Gould, Canadian Classical Pianist. Ostwald postulated Gould had Asperger Syndrome in his book, Glenn Gould: The Ecstasy and Tragedy of Genius: http://www.robertfulford.com/2004-02-10-gould.html I read the book and it was interesting, though it was slammed by many reviewers who would have preferred to embrace Gould's oddness and celebrate his genius, rather than pathologizing it all, whether he had AS or not. Point taken. Better to get to " know " those who have come out AS, and support them by buying their books, music, etc. and spreading the word. Here is my brief list of present day actors/musicians/scientists who are diagnosed or self identify as having Aspegers: Beginning with (drum roll please) our very own Ron Hedgcock, an actor. Here is a 2008 interview with Donna : http://blog.donnawilliams.net/2008/03/20/how-can-an-autie-be-an-actor-i-asked-ve\ teran-aussie-actor-ron-hedgecock/ (LOL Ron she spelled your last name incorrectly .. see, I'm not the only one <grin>) Byrne of Talking Heads fame believes he may have had mild autism and been diagnosable with Aspergers as a child, but outgrew it: http://www.stuff.co.nz/entertainment/782499 Actor Paddy Considine is dx'd AS: http://www.digitalspy.ca/celebrity/news/a313837/paddy-considine-reveals-asperger\ s-diagnosis.html Singer/composer/musician Numan is self dx'd AS: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/_Numan Singer Ladyhawke is dx'd with AS: http://news.bbc.co.uk/newsbeat/hi/music/newsid_7745000/7745453.stm Singer/musician Craig Nicholls of the Vines is dx'd with AS: http://www.guardian.co.uk/music/2006/mar/05/popandrock Nobel Laureate Vernon : www.msnbc.msn.com/id/7030731/ns/business/t/mild-autismhas-selective-advantages/#\ ..T4ITX4EpbN8 The links section of this group contains links of some adults with AS or autism. 's ASPIRES web page has a link to a list of adults with autism with their own web pages you'll find more Aspergians of note there. There are also several books out there written by folks of note with Aspergers or high functioning autism. Though they may not necessarily be household names, they are doing great things out there in the world and in their communities, and as we all know, " celebrity " is a dubious distinction anyway. My guess is that a double digit percentage of folks on the spectrum shun celebrity - Helen > > http://arts.nationalpost.com/2012/04/06/book-review-moe-me-by-lorne-rubenstein/ > I wonder, is there a list of outstanding sports figures, doctors, > scientists, musicians who were or suspected to be ASD? > Bob
