Mail delivery suspended in Olde Towne Mall

JANESVILLE The U.S. Postal Service has suspended mail delivery into

the Olde Towne Mall, 20 S. Main St., until further notice.

Postmaster A. Baldocchi delivered a letter Thursday

afternoon informing the mall's 14 tenants and Jackie Wood, co-owner,

of the decision.

" I'm just trying to keep everyone safe,'' Baldocchi said.

The downtown postal service center in the Olde Towne Mall was

temporarily closed last week after postal workers got sick and while

officials awaited results of air quality tests.

On Aug. 14, air samples were taken by Pillar To Post Professional

Home Inspections in three different areas—in front of the post

office, near the front of the first floor and in the central second-

floor area—of the mall and sent to Pro Lab in Weston, Fla., to be

analyzed for the presence of airborne mold spores.

" The samples were tested for multiple strains of mold spores, and

only one strain of mold showed elevated levels,'' Rob Kleinschmidt

of the inspection company, wrote in a letter to Wood dated Aug. 19.

" The strain showing elevated levels is penecillium/aspergillus…This

strain is considered a common indoor mold. It has a musty odor,'' he

wrote.

The test results are being reviewed by the postal service's safety

and health department in Milwaukee, and until the report is

finalized, the downtown postal service center will remain closed,

Baldocchi said.

Only one showed elevated levels?? when are any levels normal?? Just the common

Penicillium/asperguillis house hold mold? Why don't they name the other molds?
