Guest guest
HMMMM, How about throwing a hepa mask on and don't forget gloves, and cutting the plant into pieces to put in your " greens " bin. Bye, bye mold?! > > > > Does anyone know of a solution I can spray on plants in my yard that will kill the mold and > > not the plant? > > > > I have a sego palm right outside my front door and the entire underside is white with mold. > > The smell is so bad that I cannot use the front door at all. > > > > I don't know if this fungus has taken over the plant and is going to kill it anyway or not. > We > > cut several of the prans off, but none have resprouted. Guest guest
There are fungicides one can purchase at Wal Mart and most stores like Lowes. If you need more information, most nurseries have experienced staff who can give you more info on saving the plant. I have dealt with plants with mold before and found it is best to just get rid of the plant. It is not worth saving anything with mold since I have mold issues. If it is so bad it stinks and no one can use that door, it needs to go. What is more important, your health, your families health or saving the plant? Guest guest
Years ago there was a web site called the Oxygen Store and they had a list of indoor and outdoor plants that did not attract mold spores. The site is long gone and I no longer have the list. I am now wondering if this is possible or not. Does anyone know about this? Guest guest
there are some things you can try, like white vinegar. It can kill plants, so maybe try some experiments, spraying on some and seeing how it goes. The copper sulfate powder kills mold, and is not as toxic as many of the chemicals, but it might still be worse than vinegar for you. I know people who spray colloidal silver on their plants and it works for powdery mildew.... That got rid of some really stinky fungi around a stump in the yard. Guest guest
There is a Mold and Mildew killer that says it won't kill grass I have gotten at Home Depot to kill mold on concrete and also algae on tree out front. You attach it to your hose and spray with your garden hose. Is front of house facing North, or gets enough sun? > > Does anyone know of a solution I can spray on plants in my yard that will kill the mold and > not the plant? >
Guest guest
Copper Sulfate is pretty bad stuff and is toxic. We had a pond last year with some pretty horrible algae. After doing much research and being told to use copper sulfate, we decided dealing with the fungus was the lesser evil. Here is one article about how toxic it is: http://extoxnet.orst.edu/pips/coppersu.htm --- In , " kl_clayton " <kl_clayton@...> wrote: > > there are some things you can try, like white vinegar. Guest guest
The house faces South. I can't ditch the plant, it is a rental house and Sego Palms are very expensive. I am afraid if I ditch it, they will make me purchase another one. And, I am wondering if this is common with this plant. Personally, I won't own a palm tree of any type. Hate them. MY yard didn't have anything like this. I will check with the nursery and also Home Depot. I WISH I could just get rid of it, believe me! Guest guest
A lot of palms get some cottony spidery stuff on them and eventually can kill the plant. Any time I get anything on my plants, not too long ago one was infested all of a sudden with ants I kept putting dish soap on it and a few hours they were all gone and never came back. I would try to put some dish soap ( i used my fragrance free tide) and it was fine and keep pouring or spraying the plant. It usually won't hurt the plant but will rid bugs, etc. so try it on the mold or what ever it is. Just my suggestion. I have a lot of plants and they do well so that is why I am suggesting to try. You might have to make sure both sides of the leaves get soap on it and do it and come back and do it several times. Just my opinion. Good luck, > > The house faces South. Guest guest
If it is a rental, the landlord needs to take care of any diseased plants they have for the house especially since it stinks so bad you can't use the door. > > The house faces South. Guest guest
Oh, I agree!!! The rental company is horrible to deal with. I called a couple of landscape companies. One said this is called scale, some type of fungus. I call it mold. Smells and looks like mold. Called another one, this company I know better, and he is going to come over and cut ALL the prawns off the tree and spray some type of fungus something or other on the trunk. He said they will resprout with healthy prawns, but I will have to keep spraying because there are other one's in the neighborhood. I have the owner's e-mail address, maybe I will send them a quick e-mail, but I would like to offer to replace the plant with something else without this problem. My last thought is maybe a Landscape company will put them up and replace with something else for free if I just give them the plants. > > If it is a rental, the landlord needs to take care of any diseased > plants they have for the house especially since it stinks so bad you > can't use the door. > >
