Guest guest
No action as of yet from LB Nation Lakes District News - Burns Lake,BC,Canada* By Mills - Burns Lake Lakes District News Published: September 23, 2008 http://www.bclocalnews.com/bc_north/lakesdistrictnews/news/29641089.h tml Marie Bertacco and remain half-packed and ready to move at a moments notice from their house at 865 Babine Cresent so mould remediation can begin. But as of our last inquiries and despite the letter in their possession from Lake Babine Nation(LBN) stating they would soon be moved into temporary housing [mobiles], and contrary to LBN general manager Alec's assurance in the Aug.27 issue of LD News that there 'definitely will be action this week', no discernible action has been undertaken on Bertacco and behalf so far. " Nothing at all, " said Bertacco. She said they have not even received the boxes promised to them by the Nation for moving their belongings, but that she had picked up a few boxes at the library. Bertacco said they had cleaned the basement out totally in 2004, 2005 in anticipation of moving out for mould remediation, and since then they had pared their belongings down to just the necessities so they would be able to move anytime on short notice. But, Bertacco said, the hold up now could be due to pets. " It seems like the hold up is we have pets; and on the contract it says [in] the modular homes, there's no pet's allowed. We were told on July 31 there was a mobile home and now people have been saying they're all filled up, but we haven't asked the band yet. So we haven't heard from the band at all, " she said. Bertacco said because of their pets they are hoping for another solution. " We have sent letters to the band right now requesting that [] goes under the mould remediation funding, so we can rent a place, probably off reserve, somewhere it's pet friendly. We need a pet friendly place because as you can see a lot of those dogs that were running around here that the SPCA picked up were dogs that were abandoned because of the no pet policy, " she said. LD News left two messages asking Lake Babine Nation General Manager Alec to respond. Alec called LD News and informed usthat he would not comment further on either the Bertacco- situation or the no-pet policy in the temporary housing units. LD News subsequently left a message for Chief Betty in hope of a comment on the situation. As of press time had not responded.
